Tabletham, there are no starving orphans in America. If there are, it is the parents/guardians fault, not lack of funds. Haven you ever heard of food stamps?

Yes, I am told there is more than enough food on the planet to feed everybody. However the selfish wealthy minority keeps it all and throws away what it cannot use, in order to keep prices up. War or no war, there does not seem to be a willingness to help those who really suffer.
But you are right, war is just an other example of man's hardened heart. We might say we are fighting the wrong "war". Politicians have talked about the "war on poverty" - which is really the war we need to be fighting, or at least one of them. But I'm afraid many of the politicians who have used that expression - not all, but many, have been hypocritical.
EDIT:
It is true that children starve in America - in Canada as well, even with all our social programs. Too many children fall in the cracks. However there is absolutely no comparison with what is happening in Africa - and in Latin America to a lesser extent.
Some of the respondents here would benefit greatly from doing a bit of travelling to those places.
When millions of people would be happy to just be able to dig out the thrown away food in our garbage pails!
The money would be lost to corruption? We are not obliged to work through those governments. We can do it through organizations we know personally about - and if a person is interested enough, he will get to know some organization he can trust (NGO's: non-government organizations). Some are scams, so if you are too lazy to do your homework, yes, your money could be wasted. Religious organizations, churches, are doing a great job - but if you are not familiar with them you can get scammed there too. Because a lot of clever people use religion to cheat people out of their money, playing on their generosity. So whether you work through church organizations, or secular NGO's, check into them, get plenty of information, and the help you give will get to where it is most needed. Make sure you give through an organization that doesn't charge over 40% in administration!!!!
So - we really have no excuse to ignore poverty in the world.

How many innocent people around the world would have been victims of terrorists if it was not for the war on terrorism. thanks to US policy the Philippines is safe from terrorists attacks that had threatened the country for decades. Thanks America and the brave soldiers who sacrifice for others and a president with the resolve not to give in to political pressure tht would give victory to terrorism. Terrorism must be defeated and the batttle will be fought in Iraq or the streets of the cities in the US. Gen. Stonewall Jackson, the great Confederate General said "it is always better to fight your enemies on their soil rather than on your own", and that is what is so brilliant about the war in Iraq. It is making America safe from many more 9/11's. America and the world is a much safer place because of US policy in confronting terrorism.

Are you kidding me? Just because a starving orphan in America would be the fault of a parent or guardian, does not mean there are none! No matter whose fault it is, there are still children without enough to eat. I would rather see our children fed by my money, than worry about helping other countries. Starving children in Africa still have parents who brought them into this world, and therefore should be just as responsible for them as people are expected to be in America. There are many things in this country that money could be applied to before we give it away to others.

what proportion Iraqi orphans are we saving from an entire life of oppression and tyranny. Are you advocating leaving in the back of the Iraqi now, what variety of chaos might that happen. As for coming up extra terrorists, Bin Ladden himself has now stated that the front of the conflict on terror is now in Iraq, not the U.S. if we go away do not you think of that could desire to alter back. i don't approve of how the conflict subsequently some distance has been waged, even however, if we go away now we abandon those Iraqis who have been prepared to help us to the mobs and mullahs who will rip them style their homes and beat them interior the line, if we go away formerly the activity is finished. optimistically it is going to likely be achieved, the generals all say that that's getting extra helpful, we will convey them domicile. yet one element that no person seems to remember is that formerly we even went into Iraq , even the main valuable outlook stated we'd might desire to be there for a minimum of 8 3 hundred and sixty 5 days after Saddam grow to be overthrown to verify stability. We had a solid presence in JAPAN for extra effective than 10 years after WWII. and that they for the main area have been non violent. how plenty extra good is it in a region as volatile as IRAQ. We did not start up this conflict, they did. and that they are actually not going to stop if we go away. they'll attack right here back. whether we go away. They hate us, and whether we are right here or there they'll attempt to kill us. additionally this is not the region of the U.S. government to save orphans in Africa or Cambodia or everywhere. it fairly is the activity of the internal maximum sector and charitable businesses which do a notably solid activity. extra helpful than any government organization might desire to. Governments activity is to run the government and save us risk-free, for this reason the conflict on terrorism, to maintain us risk-free. So whether we stopped struggling with we'd nevertheless not be saving Orphans.

How many homeless people have you fed recently? How many could have been fed if you did not spend money on getting your hair and nails done? How many more could have been helped had you not wasted your money on trendy clothes and perfumes? What if anything have you done to help the poor of this world? Why aren't you selling your home and furnishings and giving it all to help the poor you claim to care so much about. What a Hypocrite!!

Not to be picky but everyone who voted for the war thought there were weapons so it wasn't just one guy. The FBI and CIA both had intel that said there were WMD's.

You cannot just flat out abandon a country that we have "freed" or it will be exactly what we did last time we left Iraq in that the bad people got ahold of the government again and there was wholesale slaughter of the dissidents.

There is no money in curing hunger so no one will do it.

First, how many starving American children could be saved with that money? Answer: All of them, with lots left over for the children of Africa and other poor parts of the world. And we could provide a good education for all the children in America, and give them health care as well. We might even be able to afford some of those tax cuts for the wealthy and the government handouts we've given to the biggest corporations in not only America, but the world.

Of course Halliburton wouldn't be making nearly as many billions of dollars, and for this administration, especially the vice president who still unofficially works for Halliburton, priorities are priorities! And lives, American and otherwise, are secondary...

EDIT: I agree with your general hypothesis, but if you think there are no starving children in America, you need to visit some inner-city soup kitchens, speak to some ministers in poor communities, walk the streets of skid row and peek into some of the cars parked in public parks and along the streets in poor neighborhoods. Children can't get food stamps, only their parents can, and if their parents are too messed up on drugs, too drunk, mentally ill or uneducated, kids starve.

There would be no African Orphans saved with the money put into Iraq. There are millions of dollars sent to Africa now and none of that money or food ever makes it to the people who need it. It is split up amongst the war lords and they become rich off of the death of the poor starving African orphans you think would be saved? Feed the children has BEEN GETTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for several decades and nothing is helping.

We could take the entire Budget of the US and poor it into Africa and it would not help.

You have a good point, and I gotta say, this time you worded things nicely. But we can all still do our part to help others, be they in Africa or not. If it is really important to you you could always take money from one thing you normally spend it on and donate it to your second favorite charity (I say second as many favor themselves as the first). One way to save money is by giving up internet access.
