Not really. It is annoying to some people when they are home relaxing to hear a dog barking. Be a good neighbor and go outside with your dog and train him not to bark so much! Your neighbors have the right to some peace and quiet.

A barking dog can be a nuisance, but so can complaining neighbors. The "dog catchers", or Animal Control , are not unreasonable. I once had a problem with neighbors who just didn't like dogs, and when we moved in, they complained constantly about my dog's barking although they never barked more than a few minutes and only when someone came by the house, and never at night because I kept them inside. The neighbors called Animal Control, they came out, saw that my dogs were well cared for, contained in my yard, and stopped barking a couple of minutes after they came to the door, asked me who the heck these neighbors were and where they lived (1/4 mile away, you could just about see their house through the trees from mine), said it was a ridiculous complaint and that they wouldn't take any more complaints from these people. Never heard from Animal Control again.
Just be a responsible pet owner and you won't have anything to worry about.

It is crazy! People just always find something to complain about. The neighbors must be very unhappy people if thats all they have to do. I don't know about your state but in Texas the dog catcher or city will fine you for a barking dog if there are too many complaints. Have you talked to your other neighbors to see if your dog is bothering them? If the dog doesn't bother the other ones, you might type something up on your computer saying it doesn't bother them and have the other neighbors sign it so you can give it to the dog catcher if the whining neighbor turns you in. Or, you might invest in a bark collar. Its to train them not to bark, it just gives a little shock when they bark and its not inhumane. It might be cheaper than a ticket from the city.

A barking dog can be EXTREMELY irritating. I live next door to 4 Maltese and 1 German Shepard and when they are outside the bark CONSTANTLY. I've had people say they would never be able to live here. I don't complain because the owner isn't a bad neighbor -- and I don't WANT a bad neighbor. But there are times when I'd do almost ANYTHING to get those dogs to SHUT UP!!
It might seem like only a few minutes to you, but if it interrupts your neighbors activities...
I don't know what the answer is. It's extremely hard to train a dog not to bark -- but I suggest you try.
Good luck.

Actually, it is NOT crazy, and I'm a dog person. A barking dog is EXTREMELY annoying, and little dogs tend to be the worst offenders. What might seem like a few minutes to you might actually be a lot longer. More and more counties and cities are adopting noise ordinances, which include barking dogs, and believe it or not, more and more places are including BARKING in their list of behaviors that indicate a dog is "VICIOUS" or "dangerous"! Now THAT is crazy, but it's happening nonetheless. Barking dogs are actually the number one complaint that Animal Control officers handle in many places, rather than loose dogs or biting dogs. My suggestion is to find out why your dog barks, since barking at nothing is not a normal dog behavior. Correct his barking, and let him know it's not acceptable, and you will have happier neighbors and a happier dog.

Most municipalities have noise ordinances - meaning if she's barking at 2AM as opposed to 2PM, you can get a citation. Bottom line, if your dog is REALLY kept in for the majority of the day & each time the come by the dog is inside, you really shouldn't have a problem. But if the dog is being kept out more than you say it is & it is barking more than "a couple of minutes" then you rightfully should have a problem.

I guess it would depend on how close the neighbors are and why he barks. There is a collar you can get that has a sprayer on it. Dogs hate the smell and when they bark, they get sprayed. It is humane and this could help. If the neighbors are contacting you about the annoyance, ask them for their advice and let them know what you are doing to train him not to bark. Maybe if you waited for longer stretches of time after he quit barking, he will get the idea that barking doesn't bring you out to get him and that when you are ready, you will bring him in. Ask the neighbors for patience. After all, he is only a baby.

They can't call dog catchers unless they are reporting a loose dog - or I guess I can, but dog catchers catch dogs - and won't come out because a dog barked for a few minutes. They have a lot more to do than that. Tell them to go ahead and call - nothing can happen to you anyway!

If it's only a minute or two it's unreasonable, but more they have right to complain. I'm thinking he's probably left out a little more than you are admitting to? I can;t see anyone complaining about a couple of minutes unless it's very early in the morning or very late at night.
Even though I have 4 dogs myself and love all dogs dearly I find there is little more annoying than a barking dog.

Well.. Their is a law in our area if a dog is barking you can get turned in... Yes your dog is only barking for a few.. but still.. It is deserbing to them...
IF you cant train the dog to stop you may have to get a bark collor that shocks the dog.. My dad had to get one for his dog..
It sounds bad.. but He only used it for a few months.. and buddy stoped....
A spray bottle works too.. But work with your dog now.. and they will see you are and they wont get mad and call..
Be happy.. Our neighbor lets his dog bark HOURS like 6 at a time and I had not called.. I am too nice... I hate that darn dog... I want bad things to happen to it.. sooo bad!!!!!
