It's an effective & dangerous target. However, as good strike is composed of 4 elements in action. 1. speed, 2. accuracy, 3. power, 4. balance. Speed to get throught defenses. Accuracy to ensure target acquisition. Power to have effect. Balance for continued action. Not knowing your capabilities, the theoretical bottleneck occurs at accuracy. Across human this is more difficult to develop as it requires finesse. Also, the throat is often a well guarded and small target. They may have a very small neck, or be much taller or shorter than you making angles difficult. The groin is typically the most accesible and effective target in gross theory.

Martial artists spend years working on and developing their techniques and one of the reasons is so that they can hit a target at will accurately like hunting with a rifle-not the get lucky, shot gun approach. While the throat is not as small as some targets it is sometimes harder to hit especially if the person is shorter than you. If so-you then will have to change the angle of your attack to hit it. If they are the same height or slightly taller then it is easier to hit. Most people keep their chins down enough to protect it slightly so you may have to give a high feint or a jab high on the face to get that chin up slightly, exposing the throat for your right hand which should be following behind it.
Sometimes with inexperienced fighters who are very quick and have good reactions I have lifted my rear hand straight up in the air and their eyes, head, hands and reaction will follow and then I have hit them with my left jab. I imagine if I wanted to foul them by hitting them in the throat I could have.
The nose is a little more prominent and sticks out there-if you are close enough to hit them in the throat you can certainly hit them in the nose. I would target both in a street situation and take the first one that is available which is usually the nose.
In a street situation against multiple attackers it is how fast and strongly your attack is in the very beginning if you are going to have any chance. If you can hit hard and fast and dispatch one or two of them right away then you may have a chance. If not then you will be quickly overcome and overpowered. Also don't limit yourself to just a few things-knees, elbows, stumps, kicks and stikes are all things that you will have to employ in this kind of a situation if you are going to survive it and come out on top. These days I don't recommend anyone taking on multiple attackers unless they have to and can not get away and oftentimes it can be avoided before hand.

No, it would not be hard to hit, but to do so you have to be ready to kill. If you target the throat it can damage the larynx, which will then swell shut and cut off all air, killing your opponent. I would use this only if your life is threatened, period. Even then you could be charged, although you will probably win if it is self defense.
Another technique is not to attack the "adam's apple" (death blow) but rather jab with outrstretched knuckle the hollow area below the adams apple. This will effect breathing, but will probably not kill a person. However, targeting this precisely is slightly more difficult, so pick your shots.

people that say go for the groin aren't real... i beek kicked there many times, butr under adreneline rush, it doesn't hurt (next day you can't get out of bed though) :-)

training to puch the head is a bad habit, as boxers do, although they are tough.

it is not hartd to hit the throat.
in fact i find it very easy../
only train hitting the thoat...that is what i do, and they frop like flys, but the one guy was right....there is a big danger of death if you strike the front.

the sides only usually knock out (if you are good and accurate)

front and back of the neck can kill

Against the untrained it's not difficult at all. Most untrained brawlers have a tendency to keep their chin too high, where the trained fighter keeps his chin tucked in out of the way of hooks and uppercuts.

If you are going to strike someone in the throat intentionally, you'd better have a good lawyer in case the guy dies.

I don't think it should be hard. Survival instinct might be the best motivator here - punch one in the throat, next one in the balls and the 3rd one will think twice about attacking. Be careful though, because these are the secret death points of the Shaolin monks, wink wink...

A strike to the throat could kill someone. I would not suggest doing that unless someone pulled out a knife or something extreme like that.

its not hard just have to pick the right time, if you get jumed though and a roll of pennes in your hand or something sharp and kick below the waist i think its BULL that people have to jump someone and cant fight their own fights and when they do fight their own fights its with a gun what happened to talking out a good old fist fight

If they were amatuer thugs who didn't know how to keep their guard up, then it would probably be easy to hit them in the throats.

I wouldn't say the same if they had good martial arts training.

Stay away from potentially fatal target areas!

There is a very thin line between self-defense and manslaughter... especially when you are intentionally aiming for a fatal target!
