I got a voicemail from the first place I applied to saying I have the job if I want it, and I want to call back tomorrow...problem is I don't know what to say, I really would rather work for them (they seemed more professional, and it's closer), but the pay is less than the second place I applied to (which should call back soon, as soon as the background check goes through). It's a difference of about 3 bucks an hour...what do I tell them tomorrow?

I would call back and ask how soon they would need my reply. If they don't have a problem with it, ask for a few days to decide. If they do want to know right now, it's a coin toss--take what they offer or wait on something that may or may not pan out.

Sometimes the $3.00 or $10,000.00 more a year difference isn't worth it. What is interesting is you say the first place seemed more professional and closer to home. The professional part is a big indicator they are more apt to follow by the rules. Less professional establishments are notorious for breaking various employment laws. The job being closer also would play a role in time and gas if you drive. It is great to have multiple offers, but it seems as if you decided where the better environment lies. If you really want to hear the other organizations offer. Simply tell the first place you've received another job offer and is it okay if you contact them after the memorial day holidays. If they really liked you they may up the salary.

Greta job on getting multiple offers!!

First, call them back and tell them that they are at the top of their list and you just need a day or two to make a decision. This is normal though do not stall too long. Then, call the second company and let them know you have another offer in hand and would love to work their too. Play your cards with this second employer since it looks like their main advantage is simply money.

Think long and hard which job your will be happier at and weigh this against the extra $6,000 per year you will make. $6k is a lot to consider so be careful.

Write down on a piece a paper all the pros and cons of each job and take you best option as soon as you can.

Good luck!

When deciding between two or more job offers and the pay scale is a little different, don't forget to factor in other economic factors. What 'else' does the prospective employer offer, if anything, in the way of benefits. The distance you travel to a job can be more costly in gas and car maintenance, or if you have to pay any bridge fares, etc. Look at the job offer economics in a wider perspective than just the hourly wage or monthly salary.
