don't they understand that their ancestors were illegal immigrants as well? Why not let everyone have a piece of the American Dream? Isn't that what its all about anyways? People are coming here for opportunity... the same reason under why this country was founded....

Ignorance....They don't understand why we have illegals flooding overhere....All they do is cast insults when they don't agree with you...Until you educate yourselves about the role the American government has played in depleting all natural resources in those countries, supporting dictators and corrupt governments, then you cannot discuss the illegal immigration topic with a full understanding of these people's situations. Additionally, don't you realize that America needs this labor force? Why do you think the government doesn't secure the borders and why do you think that the American government is so against Leftist governements in Latin America? If governments that were considered "communist" in places like Guatemala had not been overthrown by the CIA, then the economy would have been better in those countries and there wouldn't be so many immigrants seeking refuge here. Blame the government and blame yourselves for not keeping the government accountable....Its so much easier to blame some indigent illegal, than to look at the real problem...Thanks for the question

Our ancestors came to a place that had no laws, and no government enforcing them. Thus, they could not be illegal. As there is now a government enforcing laws, coming here without the proper handling of paperwork is illegal; thus, it should be enforced.
The American Dream can happen because we're helping the American Government at the same time. We provide money to them, they provide services and defense to us. Now, that may not be always the case, but it's what works.
People can come here for opportunity... after filling out the paperwork.

Your ancestors may have been illegal immigrants, but mine were legal. If we "let everyone have a piece of the American Dream" there won't be any left for those of us who are and have been a part of this society LEGALLY. There are a limited number of opportunities i.e. jobs. Are you suggesting that we let anyone who wants to come in and fill those jobs? Do you know anyone right now who is a citizen, unemployed and having a hard time finding a job the way things are now? I do. Get your head out of the sand.

That's why we have "legal" immigration - to share the American Dream with others. Back in the days when our ancestors came here, they were NOT illegal immigrants because this was not yet a nation with laws. Now, we are a nation with laws and those laws need to be obeyed and respected. Americans are quite happy to share the American Dream, but are right to ask for immigrants to come here legally so they can sign the guest book, so we will know who is here, and also so they can be properly signed up to pay their fair share of taxes. Illegals do not pay their share of taxes - they are not taking part in the American Dream - they are scamming what they can get without paying for it the way the rest of us do. Also, with illegal immigrants, we do not have any idea who is among us - could be terrorists, could be criminals (drug dealers, murderers, molesters, etc.), could be people spreading diseases that would be checked if they applied to enter the country legally.

No, our ancestors were immigrants. (notice the lack of illegal?) Back then, there were no immigration laws that specifically prohibited immigration without proper status.

Why people are against them? Because they do so illegally - against our laws. You'll notice, most people have no problem with legal immigrations.

If people want to come here for opportunity, come-on.... but do so legally. The process is neither quick, nor cheap, but opportunities aren't free. In addition, the United States of America is not a volunteer organization. This is a country with laws. The country's first obligation is to their citizens.

The people coming here "illegally" are skipping every law we have created to keep track of people coming and going. Meanwhile there are plenty of immigrants trying to come here "legally" but can't because we're too busy wasting funds on the illegals. The amount spent on border jumpers far outweighs the abilities of our society dollars to support legals. So, the strain on the economy is one thing, the discontent for illegal actions is another. Race is another factor.

By the way, your ancestors were not legal, the Native Americans just didn't have the means to enforce their right to maintain their land.

Well lets see over population, terrorists, & people should have to do it legally. I am Native to the United States my ancestors came from New York. So that is how I feel I am from the United States & did not immigrate from any where else.

My ancestors were never ILLEGAL immigrants.

And when they came there were no subsidized services. The latest to come built the school and church with their neighbors and passed a hat for the teacher and minister.

Those coming illegally, by definition above the limits put in place to protect our schools, health care and workers, are taking education from our children and health care from our sick, and are driving down the wages of our working class.

Their children, sick and workers are not more important than ours. The betrayal we feel at our government is that the government is supposed to be protecting US, not them.

Hate to burst your left wing liberal bubble but my parents came from Europe legally. They filed their papers, paid their fees, got jobs, learned English, promised not to be a burden on America, were tested for diseases, etc. They both became citizens. My father served in Korea and then retired as a Navy Seabee after 20 yrs.
Everyone is entitled to the American dream....if they immigrate here legally.
