I believe that the Marine Corps has a higher percentage of death per capita because they are a smaller force and serve more tours in combat.. BU, also the enemy sees them as a bigger "feather in their cap" or more bragging rights to engage Marines in combat. (I am a former Marine..my advice: GO TO COLLEGE STRAIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.)

It used to be true. The Corps has gotten smarter and is buying newer stuff, sometimes even ahead of the Army now.

I am a Marine also, I serve my country when ever called I don,t think the enemy think like you do , If you have ever been in combat you would have understood that marines don,t run the enemy does. The equipment is just as good as any service man/Women in combat, I can attest to that .Also the marines corp is not a small unit if you were a real marine you would not be asking these kind of questions, If you won,t to go to college so be it I don't blame anyone to get a higher education, However If the war last longer than your college you might have to take your education to war.The other question the enemy are not looking for feathers in there cap, There are looking to stay alive our job in combat is to take them out permanently, and that is what I did while in Vietnam, and I tell you one thing I hurt every time I here that they have killed another marine, army, Navy man or any us troop while in combat , If they would let me and I could hog tie my wife I would go and help my fellow man/women in combat, But without reinforcements the troops will dwindle down to nothing and we would be over run , I tell you right now I am glad its over there and not here, I hope I never see the day.

You should study more. What you believe and what is true are way apart. Marines (more tours) How are you comparing 6 month tours (Marines) and 12 to not 15 month tours by the Army? Your per capita ratio is due to the fact that most of the units who support the fight are Army. The enemy only sees Americans, they can't really tell the difference. When they set up an IED they don't tell it only to blow up when Marines go by? There are certain small unit that try and target special forces soldiers. That is about it. Not everyone has the financial backing to go straight to college. Hopefully you do.

What are you talking about? You say you are a former Marine, but how can you not know what's happening in Iraq?

The Army has suffered the most casualties in this war, by far distance. A good reason why Marines probably have lower casualties is because there is less Marines than soldiers. Some people may even argue that insurgents go after soldiers instead of Marines because nobody wants to face Marines, think about it, if you were the enemy, who would you rather fight, Marines, or US soldiers?

Marines have more bragging rights because they are the first to land and fight in combat unlike the Army whose operations is different considered more safe than the latter.
