And it appears that they both have the same features.

Is it pretty much the same thing?

Yeah cuz i was comparing these 2
-PYTHON 881XP
-Viper 791XV

and i noticed that the features are completely identical.
even the transmitters are practically identical.

There is no difference in the 2. DEI which is the actual company that makes the alarms makes python, viper, sidewinder, hornet etc. The alarms are actually the same just marketed under different names to be sold at more stores.

If you install a Viper 791XV in a vehicle, you could literally unplug the Viper brain and plug in the Python instead, and it would work exactly the same way. There's no difference between the two alarms except the remote and the name plate. You can even program a Viper remote to operate the Python alarm, and vice versa.

i've installed both the viper and python versions of the remote starter/alarms and found the wiring and progaming to be identical, only difference was the transmitters
