You will find few of any religious stripe that will criticize JCS whether on stage, in a movie house, vhs or dvd. In the movie Judas was emotionally fantastic. Of Course Mary Magdalen's Love song was 1st on the charts for almost a month.

It's taken from Judas' POV, there is clearly some creative license going on, and of course I don't recall any singing and dancing in the gospels. I also think it has a protestant theological bent. Mary, mother of Jesus, is not in the film at all. It's one of my favorite "Jesus" movies though, if not my favorite. The 70's version is, not the 2000 remake. The music and the lyrics of many of the songs are quite moving, and even if it's not 100% Biblical or orthodox, the "Spirit of the Gospel" is present in the film. It has brought many to Christ. You should try watching the commentary with it, the guy who played Jesus tells of some spiritual experiences he had, and he breaks down crying when he talks about when a strom was coming in when he was on the cross, and everyone forgot about him up there and left him, and it made him suddenly realize how Christ must have felt, the fear and lonliness of being abandoned. It was really moving.

It is really ironic to see this question, because when I was a teenager & young adult (60's & early 70's) we were taught that Rock & Roll was evil, sinful, satanic and sexual (okay, I'll give you that last one). Jesus Christ Superstar was seen by fundamentalists in those days as the heigth of evil and sacrelige, as were the "evil Beatles".
Rock and Roll was "The Devil's Diversion" according to Bob Larson, who got kids to destroy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Rock albums (while shouthing "hallelujah!") and who later went on to manage Christian Rock & Roll groups once he realized how much money was in it. And today he will teach you to cast out demons for just $2,000! (see http://www.boblarson.org),.
JCSuperstar is actually a great, heartfelt rock opera written by Stephen Sondheim one of the great musical geniuses of our time. And by the way, FYI, a rock opera IS a musical.

If you take out the words, the music is awesome, but with the words, I plug my ears.

That Jesus is a new age avatar. Jesus said that many would come in his name and say that he is the Christ, and deceive many. He will be justified in all his sayings.
