No you haven't screwed your chances, most importantly make sure your back is healed before doing anything else. Let this back injury be an inspiration to go after your dreams even harder.

I don't know how old you are but the after effect of an accident is usually a form of delayed shock. It is the realisation of your vulnerability. I'm sure if you heal well there is every chance you can still fulfil your dream. You probably wouldn't make it as a roadie, but there is no reason why you can't continue developing your musical skills. Injuries can take time to heal use this period in a constructive way, turn the experience into a positive one. Strengthen your theoretical knowledge, start composing, etc. As a bass player you can make good money and contacts by doing session work for this you need to be strong in all areas musical. Work out where you want to be in a couple of years time and start with a realistic plan of action. Good luck

No, definitely not.
It will make it harder unless you can overcome your injury, but if you want it badly enough, there are ways to make your dream come true.
I know of musicians who are blind, who've lost both legs in an accident, lost an arm, etc. and they made it as musicians.
It won't be easy--your circumstances makes it harder for you to persue your dream--but it does not preclude your dream. It's all up to you now--how hard you work, how talented you are, and a little bit of luck of being the right guy at the right time in the right place, but it can be done.

Way too many "kind and understanding" responses, use them as you will. Here's another useful bit of advice: TOUGHEN UP QUIT SNIVELING HELP YOURSELF
I'm not trying to be an a-hole, quite the opposite. You are so far from "disabled"...and I'm sure you can accomplish whatever you want should your talent and ability take you there. Get physical therapy for your injury, you'll get better.
I think I've seen 10 or more surgeries, still have fun all day everyday.

Whatever you do, do not give up on your dreams.
Your back injury may be temporary, i dont know, you didnt give enough detail on your injury. But if I were you, if your dream means that much to you then go through the pain and do exercises on your back to fix your back. If it hurts that means its healing. Do not give up your dreams. If your injury is permanent, sorry to hear that, but there are still ways of you to reach your dreams, you just gotta think out of the box.
good luck to you.

Do what's possible instead of worrying about doing what's impossible. Sit in a chair and have somebody pick the guitar up and drop it in your lap if necessary. Do you remember the song "Oh Suzanna"?
I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee.

Seriously? Did you ever see the movie Ray? You hardly have a condition that is going to stop you from playing the guitar. Only you can stop yourself.

To quote The Bloodhound Gang -- "The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm."
You're straight, bro, don't let it get you down. You can still play bass and all that.

Keep up the physio, and you never know ... you don't say when this accident happened, it may be that you need a lot more time to fully recover.
