I didn't choose. You can't just choose what you believe or not. Either I'm convinced or unconvinced.

I used to be a Christian. As I grew up, I had questions which I looked into. I also looked at other religions and the nature of belief, itself. I talked to many people and read a lot.

I gradually became unconvinced in the existence of any gods. Eventually, I had to admit to myself that I was an atheist. It was very liberating. The world just seemed to make so much more sense afterwards.

I chose to become atheist 2/3 months back or longer i suppose because i stopped believing in a higher being. I was raised a catholic but i studied the bible about four times...cover to cover and i can't understand any of it! that's not the reason but i need real proof....and after becoming atheist i conquered a lot of fears and unleashed a lil bit of my true self

Most Atheists don't "choose". The bible didn't make much sense to me. I was about 8 or 9 when I began to have doubts. By the age of 16, I had to face the truth, that I didn't believe any of it. It wasn't evolution or Darwin or any Atheist writing that made me realize it. It was the bible and many of its followers.

I refuse to share the long sad version for others to make fun of
In short I am like Father G the more I studied religion and the Bible the more jaded I became.

It was also a wonderful feeling to not be afraid anymore.

From 3-7 I believed most of what I was told.

From 7-10 I doubted much of what I was told.

From 10 on I've demanded proof for anything I've been told.

No proof of god = no god.

Well, let's see. I was orphaned and then later adopted and constantly reminded that I was saved because I was the only one in the car that was innocent.
I lived my life hearing that my parents were sent to hell for their sins.........

After about 13 years of this, you kind of get tired of it.
By the way...My adoptive parents no longer think that I should have been saved and disowned me the day I turned 18....

Such loving christians and a loving god, huh?

~Atheist~

EDIT: Sorry, as for your question...I always knew there was no possible way for there to be a god. I never believed it and my parents never believed it. I would have considered myself one of the lucky ones had they lived and raised me the way they wanted to.

It was not a choice. I grew up a christian and started to do some studying, reading the bible and other religious books and history. It was logic that gave me my freedom. Thank goodness for looking into it for myself. Now I'm a happy atheist.
