and why are they so mean when someone talks about religon???

They are not all mean, just as not all Christians are jerks. There are some on both sides.

Atheists believe only that which can be logically or empirically proved. They don't take on faith the idea that the Bible is the word of God. They don't take on faith the possibility that god is responsible for everything, rather relying on science and reason.

Many atheists are upset because we live in a society that attempts to stuff Christianity down our throats at every junction. People in school systems are trying to promote religious views over science and reason. Religious emblems promoting the Judeo-Christian faiths are allowed in government facilities to the exclusion of others.

The ten commandments do not belong in a court room; our laws are not founded on them. They tell non christians that they shall be judged based on Christian standards.

Contrary to Christ, who said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's", we have god plastered over all of our money.

In any case, atheists don't believe what they cannot show to be true empirically, and attempting to enforce things of faith; of a particular religion is quite unsavory to them.

Atheists are people who reject the notion of God in their lives. But people who are believers should understand and respect them even though they may react differently towards us.

I believe they are good people. Most often during discourse, their sensitivities are touched which may lead to a negative reaction. It is the same too for people who are very religious and zealous of their faith.

Best not to judge them but rather find means to exchange common ground. If you are a man of faith, pray for them. Treat them always with respect.

Some atheists get mad about religion because they want others to see it their way but people just look at them like they are evil and stupid for not believing in your God

I do not believe in your idea of a god.
I am not mean when you talk about your religion..if it is good for you, it is good for me that it makes you feel better.
I become cross when you try to convert me to your way of thinking. If you stop making it your mission in life to convert all who dissagree with you, you would most probably find much more tolerance towards you and your religion.
If your religion were more tolerant of other people's beliefs, did not damn them to hell for believing differently than you, I suspect you would have very different attitudes shown you. Try it.

Typicaly, atheists believe that nature is responsible for all existence.

And of course that god does not exist.

Some atheists can be mean for the same reason some theists can be mean.

I am not sure exactly what atheists do believe. I have read in the news about one prominent one who believes in moving from one state to another so he can change the Pledge of Allegiance to not say "under God".(under the guise that is a burden that his child has to say it in class). It would be nice if he agreed to a truce with his ex wife; that by itself would help his child a lot more.

and most of us aren't "so mean" usually unless we're being attacked or challenged or someone is trying to force their beliefs on us

and those that are mean for no reason are no better than those trying to shove their beliefs on everyone
