Yes, I need a gun in my house, because there are things in the world that aren't afraid of lawyers.

First of all thanks for bringing this up! I've been considering this subject for a while and this is a good excuse to do some straight forward research on it.
I wouldn't recommend it if you have rebellious teenagers or someone else who might make a dumb decision. If you know your own family will be safe then i recommend it. Most robbers or murderers would have a knife or some melee weapon so a gun would put you at a great advantage.
Overall i think the best decision is to have an unloaded gun to always have around as a threat to any intruders. (This is what I'll probably do) It provides most of the protection of a loaded gun but without the risks. Also, if it is loaded, you could end up killing someone and that could end up ruining your life and thats a risk that I wouldn't be willing to take.
Then again, most people who are bold enough to break in to threated your family are not going to be threatened by a gun. This is especially true of people who are high or drunk and unable to make good decisions. At this time a loaded gun could be used to shoot them in the leg to show that you aren't afraid to hurt them.
Hopefully I've pointed out some good arguments that will help you decide. The choice is really up to you whether you want a gun or not. The protection a gun gives is comforting but it also poses some risks.
Good Luck with your decision.

I believe in protecting oneself against intruders. I believe in having a gun in the home.
I also think that gun owners should take the necessary steps to keep the gun safe from children and/or those who are inexperienced with the handling and firing of a gun.
A gun is the best thing to combat a burglar who has no other intent other than to hurt you and your family. Keep in mind, most homeowners don't have to use them, but it is better to have one on hand..just in case.

yes but only for severe paranoia problems hehe. but i will use one if someone DARES to threaten my family. I dont have a gun though and i am definitely ok with that. If I really need to protect my family i can go for a messy approach using a plastic 30 cent sword. (or i can use the real one which im not allowed to touch otherwise)

"Guns don't kill people *cocks gun* I kill people!"
- My favorite quote from "UHF"
To answer the question, yes I need one. For one, I sometimes need it for animal control (we live the in woods). Second, I would rather have one and never need it to protect my family, than need it and not have one!
Plus, it is our Constitutional RIGHT... and I'm all for that!

Absolutely. It's the only tool that will do for certain jobs, like negotiating with a late-night intruder.

Because I've caught my neighbor breaking in and I have no ways of getting out. The police, at best, are five minutes away.

i would never keep a gun in my house. maybe a baseball bat or, a metal bar or a really sharp butchers knife. guns just aren't a good thing to have at home, you never know when someone will find it & really get bad ideas.

If you don't have time to walk a large Rottweiler or have money for an alarm, and live alone, yes, I prefer to have one, because I'm responsible enough to own one !
