no faith is not a evil plot.you can have faith and have a mind of your own. Faith is the belief in things unseen.Faith is a comfort when we need it. With out faith we are miserable and cynical. But always we are given free will to choose how we live and believe. Faith to me is the only thing that keeps me keeping on some times. Faith that i will be in heaven with the Lord and that he will keeping me going here until that day.I can honestly tell you i have a great faith in GOD and he has blessed me many times over even when i felt i didnt deserve it.But i too have my own mind and my beliefs.Faith is a gift but its also a blessing. and with out it life is not so great. I was a nonbeliever for many years i was a miserable person.I am physcially not up to par now but i dont worry about that my faith holds me together. Not everyone has the same degree of faith it grows with prayer and believing. Bless you and i hope you do find this helpful.

There are two kinds of faith. One is a gift from God in the sense of believing in His Word for something critical to your life. In the other sense it takes faith to know that God is. When you start there is a faith that has to be exercised in order to operate in God through Jesus Christ. This is a gift as it is already in you, it is just dormant and grows through expression and experience in God. "God has given to every man the measure of faith".

Faith is the evidence God gives you so that you might believe.
Do not look for this evidence to be in the form of scientific data. The faith that is needed is based upon evidence of the spirit.
Inside all men is an empty spot. It is where God wishes to live and nothing else can fill it. It came to be when man first sinned and separated himself from Him. God wants you back. When you look for Him search in His word for the evidence you need that leads to faith.

I will paraphrase the words of Greg Koukl in saything that Biblical faith is not "religious wishful thinking" as so many people think of it. Rather it is "an intelligent trust in what can't be seen that's inferred from evidence that can be seen"... "a commitment to reality, to acting on what you have good reason to believe is true".
(Please read the referenced article for much more coherent and eloquent detail on that concept.)
In the case of the "religious wishful thinking" type of faith, I think that is an evil plot to distract people from Truth.

I do not know if I would say evil.
Definitely a plot to stop people thinking for themselves and give their money to the priests. (For the greater glory of god of course!)
Why do you think they refer to god as their shepherd? They want the people to act like sheep. (i.e. keep getting fleeced without asking why.)
Edit:
Their version of if you have faith then god will give you faith - is exactly the same argument as for those who could 'see' the Emperor's New Clothes. - if you are smart enough to see them, then you will see them.
What was the moral of that story again?

God gives everyone a measure of faith. Faith is like a seed it has to grow. If you think your faith is worthless then you can toss it by the wayside just like most of you have done already

The Bible states that every man has been given a measure of faith. This is why I do not believe in an atheist however what you do with your faith is up to you. You can either accept God as your Father in Heaven or fill your mind with garbage and self devotion and totally turn yourself away from His love that He wants to pour out on YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find the idea of faith, as Christians advance it, quite curious.
They tell you to get faith, you need faith. You need to accept Christ first, on faith, then god will give you faith.
Then they speak of all of thee evidence of Christ that one cannot see until their eyes are opened by believing in Christ.
Seems to me that if God wished people to believe, he would give the evidence first to enable people to make a rational decision to follow him. Instead, we are told to be irrational, and that then, god will show us the rational nature of our irrational decision.
How bizarre.

Use your head - but that can only take you so far. It is impossible to decide with only your head - the facts lead to the conclusion that god exists and so on but only with faith will you completely believe.
