20 pounds isn't a good idea so fast. When I was 12 I was also 140 and had to lose it. Give it your all, maximum effort. I will give you a list of foods you cannot eat the first month:
Mashed potatoes
junk food
soda
white rice
bread
nothing fried
red meat
anything greasy
no oils
VERY low sugar intake
most saladdressing
Just by taking that off your food list your going to lose alot.
A sample day plan can be: kellogs for breakfast, then fruit as a snack, for lunch a salad and some grilled chicken, another snack of veggies, and then dinner grilled salmon with brown rice. NO FOOD AFTER 6.
if you are hungry drink water.
For excersize, walk a few blocks daily, do 100 jumping jacks [four sets of 25 a day]
GOODLUCK! YOU CAN DO IT!

If you wish to be 20 lbs lighter by your birthday, it would have been better to have started earlier. Your Dr. isn't going to punish you or anything if you don't reach that goal.
I would say ask your parents to help with food choices - maybe they will enroll you in Weight Watchers - I know several people who have been helped by this program - all ages. Or they can vow to eat the same thing you do for a time period, that way will there won't be all sorts of 'forbidden' foods around to tempt you and you won't feel alone!
Also, it's spring and it's much easier and more fun to get out and move. Swimming, paddling, bicycling, frizbee, just so many games available to play. Sign up for some parks and recreation programs.
Set smaller, more defined goals than '20 lbs by my birthday'. Twenty pounds probably seems too difficult! Set a 5 pound goal. When you reach it, set another 5 pounder, then another. Once you make a goal, celebrate (maybe a round of putt putt golf or a paint ball excursion with Dad and your friends). It will seem easier and easier - you'll be able to say, 'hey, 5 pounds in a cinch - I know cause I've done it before!"
Keep in mind that the goal isn't simply the weight loss right now, but changing eating and exercise habits so that you'll always feel good and remain healthy.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Since you are still young you have a faster metabolism then most adults so that is a good thing, in most cases it might not be what you are eating, but what you are drinking, if you are drinking alot of soda then that is most likely a big culprit, so many people I know go off of pop and lose those 20 pounds you want gone, if you ever look at the nutritional label on pop look at the sugar and calories, if you are having 6 of those a day that's 6 too many.
It also helps to go out for walks, play some sports with you friends, when at school on recess get more involved in soccer games or basketball games that may be played during those break times.
Try not snacking so much as well, you can still eat the great foods like prk chops, steaks, french fries (in moderation) so long as they are on a kind of set routine of scheduled eating times...
Hope this helps in some way, I have been there before.
PS. 20lbs is nearly impossible to lose by that date unless you are on a calorie diet with lots of exercise, but you are too young for that, enjoy your life and lose it slowly you will keep it off for good if you develope good eating habbits.

At thirteen, if you're real chubby, you ought to talk about a more fit vitamin and recreation software with dad and mom. It is significant that you just no longer attempt to lose an excessive amount of too quick. You can not attempt to lose extra that a million-two kilos per week. Certainly no longer 15-25 in 20 days. That's an impossibility. If you'll be able to be trained to have more fit consuming and recreation behavior now you'll be able to be more fit in your complete lifestyles. Eat a clever vitamin and get a few recreation. Cut out the junk meals and get off the sofa. God bless!

Lay off the sugar like majorily.
Do 20 to 25 minutes of stretches and then go running gradually from 15 to 30 to 45 and stop it at an hour when you feel like you can run an hour.
Also drink tons and tons of water. But have a square balance diet because if you eat fruits and vegetables everything has natural sugars.
But keep yourself on a 2000 calorie diet and it should help.

girl you better lose weight and stop eating that much and go exercise otherwise you will be shown on the national tv and mocked at. baby you have to understand that overweight is not only ugly-looking, it is very unhealthy. No one can help you with it, but you have to do that for yourself, try to picture that when you are 16 your weight will be about 200 pounds and you will have walking problems and heart diseases. Do to your parents and ask to help you with it, if they won't do everything yourself, but stop being lazy and tell your stomach enough, instead of listening to what your stomach wants 24/7. Good luck.

The most important thing is to find an exercise activity that you enjoy, and do it more and more as you get in better condition. Don't feel hopeless if you can't stick to a rigid diet. Eat moderate size meals, and focus mostly on going farther or longer each day in your exercise. Bicycling, basketball, tennis, racketball, or running will make you lose weight fast if you do it every day. Cut down on video games and tv, those make you get the munchies. Those should be relatively easy things to do, and you will definitely see results.

Try eating lots of chicken, grains (cereal) and get some carnation instant breakfast (rich chocolate) it tastes just like chocolate milk, exactly and it give you loads of protein. For dinner, try eating alot, but healthier. If you dont feed yourself enough, you will starve your metabolism and you will gain weight, unless you just dont eat in which u will look like Nicole Richey, lol. The motto would be "Eat more....but eat healthier!"
Hope this helps
Oh ya, and as for the cardio, do this
Monday: 30 minutes of cardeo
Tuesday: 30 minutes of weight taining
and swtch back and forth like that, doing nothing on the weekends. this is from Glamour.com
(check it out, you can get set up on your own personalized eating and exercise plans for free!!!!)
You could also try this hollywood diet, known as one of the easiest one. Eat every two hours, but eat something small and healthy like a fruit or granola bar, and eat your meals as well, eat alot, but eat healthy (vegetables, white meat chicken) the reason they say to eat every 2 hours....it gives you no time at all to get hungry, so you wont pig out when u eat your meals.

It might be difficult to loose 20 pounds by your birthday sweetie...
But do start a healthy diet.
No potatoes, no corn, peas or rice or ice cream, no sweets. Eat as many vegetable as you want. You need at least three servings of low fat milk products a day. Have three servings of fruit a day. Apples and banana's are high calorie so limit to no more than three per week.
Lots of good protein, low fat chicken, beef, pork and fish. Nothing FRIED!
you can have teas or diet soda's. Eight glasses of water per day.
Good Luck~
