I applied for my passport on April 13th, they cashed the final Dept of State check on May 14th. I need it by June 11th and stupidly did not pay for expedited service. Could anyone let me know if they recently got one how long it is taking from the time they cash the Dept of State check, not the post office fee... Thanks.

Routine service about 10 to 12 weeks. Expedited services about 2 to 3 weeks. Check out the web address below. You can also check the status of your application at this address.

On the news yesterday they were reporting that some people are not getting their passports in time for trips now. The people they profiled had applied last February.

You may have a problem getting it by June 11th.

There is a backlog because of the new laws requiring a passport to re-enter the states.

As of yesterday, it has been 12 weeks since I applied for my passport and it is only now in the mail because I fought tooth and nail and stayed up 'til 3 a.m. night after night waiting in line to call the passport agency and got my congressman's staff and the local post office and campus mail services involved and I feel like I'm in a bad spy movie. My class trip is scheduled to leave the day after tomorrow, and it's completely up in the air whether I even get to go...

What makes me mad is that when I applied in late February, the problem was already getting bad but I knew nothing about it and the post office told me it would be within 4-6 weeks - SOMEONE did not communicate with them! I took their word for it and gave them my only birth certficate (so I can't go expedite another one locally). I just talked to a classmate who just applied for regular service for a trip that is leaving in eight weeks; they never told her either.

I really do not want to lose $4000 for someone else's irresponsibility and lack of communication. Is there any way to get your money back if you miss the trip?

The website below says it takes about 12-16 weeks. (And that appears to be for people who make the calls and get it sped up.)
