Gerbils will have up to 6 pups in a litter. The dad will help raise the babies. Mom and Dad know what to do. Just make sure they have enough bedding and stuff to make a nest (tissues or paper towels work well) and a box of some sort so they feel safe. Feed them good food and try not to stress them out. When the babies are about 2 or 3 days old, start handling them -- handling them a lot will help them become well socialized adult gerbils!
Good luck.
Edit: Gerbils stop getting pregnant when the females are about 18 months old. It is cruel to separate a bonded pair -- they mate for life. If you don't want any more babies, have the male neutered and then let them live out their lives together.
Do separate the babies, male and female, at about 4-5 weeks.

Take the babies and separate them male and female after they are about 4-5 weeks and weaned. Or else you will have a ton of gerbils.

when the litter is old enough take the males and put them in another tank.. do the same with the females.... you cannot switch them back later or they fight.... you cannot move them round as in mixing later because they will fight and attack each other.... then you can give them away and keep 2 females or males and be free
