I not sure how much your kid can make per month and still allows the parents to pay taxes with that child as a dependent.

so basically, if jack got a summer job, and he makes 7 bucks a hour, is it true after he makes a total of 3000 dollars, his parents would have to pay more tax because jack can no longer be counted as a dependent?
if not total of 3000 dollars what would it be? or would be a monthly rate thing such as $1000/month? In other words what would it take for a child to be independent salary wise.

As long as the kid doesn't provide more than half of his own support, the parent can still claim him as a dependent. There is a worksheet in IRS Publication 17, page 32, for determining support - but it would be pretty unlikely that $3000 would be providing over half of the child's support. There's not a specific dollar limit - review the worksheet.

The parents can claim the child as a dependent if they are paying more than half of his living expenses. The child would likely have federal taxes withheld, and so would need to file a 1040-EZ come tax time.
