find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.

I've tried a few; I get the best most lasting results on Weight Watchers. This time I'm doing flex points. I can eat anything, just figure the points and stay within my limits. Best of everything I've tried. I don't feel like I'm dieting, I feel like I
am making healthy choices that suit me and my life style.
Pick a program and stick withit for 2 months. Really follow the directions. Then if it is not working, make a change.
Good Luck!

Please stay away from fad diets and quick weight loss schemes. The best way to lose weight is healthy balanced diet and regular excercise which includes weight training. Most people don't like this tried and true method because it requires patience and common sense. Don't be fooled! This is the best way no matter what the rest of the world tells you. The most attractive people in the world are the ones who are active, healthy and like themselves. Prove you like yourself by eating a balanced diet and doing regular cardio and weight traing (I promise weight training is highly effective for everyone - thats right, I said it, everyone!) and/or get involved in a sports program.
Good luck!

Watch your portions. Maybe pre-measure them beforehand? Start reading the labels, and see how much a serving size is. Most people don't know that a serving of cereal is one cup; they just pour it into the bowl and that's that.
Also, if you can help it, eat smaller meals. Eat them more often; have maybe breakfast, a small snack, lunch, a small snack, dinner.
I've lost ten pounds in the past four months, and I haven't had to give anything up, just eat less.

Read the book "Fit for Life" it is one of the best books you can read. It not only will give you a set of diets but it will teach you a lot about your body and digestive system. That will allow you to make your own choices and to make them well
