it means u want to only date eachother and no one else, you want to become exclusive with one another, u'll stop seeing other guys and he'll stop seeing other girls, boyfriend and girlfriend. :) ♥

it depends on if you mean things are going steady, then things are going well. If you mean as in the old term you hear in say 50's movies "we're going steady" it always seemed to be a commited relationship, rather then dating around...

It is an old term for going with only one person at a time. You date only each other and no one else. Today they call it going out together. It is a strictly monogamous relationship. That term was use in the fifties and sixties. There is nothing sad about it, it is fun if you are in love with that person.

Going steady is not sad. It is boyfriend and girlfriend and no others. It's usually referred to as "going out" now.

All it really means is that you and the other person are dating only each other. There are no set rules beyond that.
