Not a particular event, but general things. Since my parents are somewhat VERY much attached to religion (And so are my brothers & sister) I didn't dare to come out to anyone of them as a homosexual person. I didn't even tell them about my "Liberal Notions" towards many things. There's one thing my brother said that left a mark in me (Few months ago) about gay people. Now I do realize from long time ago that he hates gay people (Not lesbian porn of course...) but he said (We were watching TV and a pedophile man appeared): "If it was in my hands I would have KILLED ALL pedophiles & gays". In that moment I had this overwhelming urge to say to him out loud: "If you knew I was gay, would you kill me too?". It was horrible.

Nothing that extreme. I have many sweet friends and acquaintances that are fundies.
This week my sister-in law died. She went to a literalist church, so I've been stuck in a kitchen full of fundies discussing how person A is going to have the biggest mansion in heaven because they always make the best (funeral) casserole. And how bobbie will have the cleanest mansion in heaven, and will probally declare it needs cleaning on arrival. etc, etc,
Effect on me... I keep my mouth shut mostly, and try to resist the urge to puke when hearing these ridiculous ideas of a heaven that is just a projection of life on earth. There is little apparent soul searching and true reflection. If I have to clean my mansion.. I want a little bitty one, 'cause I'm not going to stay there. I'm taking my soul outside to rejoin the conciousness of the creator.

Somehow, when I was 10 or 11, I decided I would learn to play guitar. My family and guitar teacher thought it would be a great idea to play in the church group on Sundays. I did. I would also play by myself and lead the singing at mass that we had on certain religious days during school. I did that for a couple of years.
If someone asked me to do that today, there is no way I would do it. Not on a bet. I can't even play guitar now nor would I want to go to church!

i'm gonna replica and paste an answer, 'reason i'm a lazy b@stard. unique question: "If u . s . benefits islamic terrorism then what did France do to deserve 10x more advantageous of it?" it will be because the French are a ways more advantageous liberal than maximum. i do not believe of Islamic terrorism has a lot do to with "hating freedom." i imagine it truly is only a moronic mantra coined with the help of a figurehead (Bush) who become very busy taking freedoms away. No. . . What those extremists hate and worry is what they perceive as "sin." there is political motivation for attacking the U.S. --no longer that the civilians need to be killed. Technically, The U.S. has been at conflict with Islam for decades, yet in conflict, you target for the warriors, no longer civilians. having said that, human beings are in charge for killing thousands of thousands of civilians, so. . . hmm. yet decrease back to the "sin" element (were given kinda side-tracked there). The hatred expressed with the help of the non secular enthusiasts (the non-political extremists) is little different from the Christians who can make a 5-365 days-previous little female carry an illustration declaring "God hates f@gs." The Muslims in basic terms take it up a notch. bear in mind, the French are very socially more advantageous, and that is were given to get fairly some Muslim panties in a gaggle--and a number of them finished of bombs.

Beyond the basic comments from my grandmother and sister, I can't think of anything extreme that truly or deeply affected me.
But there was one Christmas where we drove to a park where they had a ton of Christmas lights. There was one of Jesus on the cross, and everyone in the car was saying how morbid that was, and we were making fun of it. My oldest sister sat quietly through the whole thing and then finally said, "You know . . . you guys are all going to hell."
I looked at her and said, "Can't go to hell if you don't believe in it."
It was an all around fun evening.

Are you serious? No wonder you are a little grumpy about religion!
Well boys used to drive by my house and yell 'whore' because I didn't attend church or date anyone in a small town in Mississippi. Will that stand up in court? But I am so over that crap, who cares!
