I can't say for Wales but here in the state of Washington, it has been a disaster for many businesses - being barred by law from relaxing in public, smokers are staying home and saving their money. I have never smoked but since the second-hand smoke is dangerous idea is based on intuition and all studies done have had basic flaws due to there being no ethical way to study the issue, I can't see the need to have the government involved in what is a personal and/or business decision.

Here in the handwringing, nanny state of Massachusetts I don't go out as often particularly in winter. If the weather is really bad I don't even consider going out to dinner. I just make a nice one at home and invite friends- both smoking and non smoking. We eat , have drinks and a nice time just like it was before the smoke ban except we do it at home. My non smoking friends don't mind the smoke.

Ban smoking for ever, smoking is damaging the Earth and the inhabitants on it, why can we not stop it alltogether?
