We learned about this in the culture part of my nursing class and was just wondering what they are. Are they regular store bought undergarments, or special made ones? Just curious.

Wow...they taught about them in nursing class? That's too cool! What did they say? As to your question, the Temple garments are special garments bought through the church that adults who have gone through the Temple Endowment ceremony wear as a reminder of the promises they made with God on the day of their ceremony. Hope that helps!

This is interesting regarding the medical profession concern about "garments".

They are considered sacred, and if they need to be removed for a medical emergency, they need to be handled or disposed of properly. I'm unsure how the church stands regarding anything that might be blood-soaked, but I'm willing to bet they would comply with bio-hazard handling laws as long as it's done with some dignity.

I don't believe they will insist the symbols be removed, and the decision might be made at the local bishop level.

These are specially made for the Mormons, and they are white. Made of a this material, they think of them as sacred, and always wear them under their clothing. They can only be purchased through the LDS church outlets, although someone tried to disgrace them once buy selling a set on E-Bay.

They are special made. They are symbolic to remind us of the covenants that we make with our Heavenly Father in the temple. They also remind us to be modest in our dress. It is something that dates back to Adam and Eve. Remember the skins that God said to clothe them with as they discovered they were naked? These represent the same.

They are special made ones.

I'm sort of curious as to what they said to you about them.

What I would want a medical person to know is, that if they have to be removed, to please not just throw them around if you can help it. Don't throw them away, give them back to the patient, or to another LDS person, who will dispose of them.
