There is no such thing as Vitamin B-17. It is not in any biology text books. All other vitamins and minerals have more than one source. "Vitamin B-17" only comes from apricot pits? That's because it is a term made up to try to sound scientific.

As for the effectiveness of Laetrile/Vitamin B17 against cancer, there is none. It is probably the biggest cancer cure fraud/hoax out there right now.

tho this post was made 4 years ago i hope you will see this, after reading the comments here i thought you should know the truth. YES B17 IS A CURE FOR CANCER I am a chemical engineer and i have studied this matter extensively. B17 is illegal is because when cancer researchers first started testing it they found that it cured all forms of cancer cells immediately and it costs next to nothing to produce then sell, and they where making millions from donations so why would they want to cut a massive chunk of their income. You have to remember that you being sick is what keeps the pharmaceutical company's in business. now i will tell you how you can kill any tumors in your body it is quite a simple proses all you have to do is have 500mg of B17 2 times a day (once in the morning and once at night) do this for 2-6 weeks, checking with your doctor every week to see if your cancer is still there (also you have to stop chemotherapy) and by the 6th week your cancer WILL be gone!!! if you don't know where to get B17 you can go to amazon they have some on there or another way is apple seeds. you can also check Google for other types of foods that are high in B17. Best of luck to everyone i will be going to other sites saying the same thing together we can cure cancer, together we will make the world a better place. oh by the way my mother died from cancer when i was 10 which is why i spent my life learning how to cure it. When my older sister got cancer last year i was still in the middle of testing my research 3 months ago i started treating her with B17 the same way i told you to do it. She had 5 tumors after 4 weeks of treating her all 5 tumors where 100% gone she is now cancer free and as healthy as can be. please if you or someone you know has this dreadful disease tell them there is hope, there is a cure and show them what i have told you

No! While it may be benificial to the over all health, It is not a cure. Those promoting such cures would like to rid your pockets of cash. That is the bottom line.Having battled cancer & am free of it, One thing they tell you from the start is not to touch any supplements with out clearing them with the oncologist. Why? Because many of these wonder treatments being sold can effect the effectiveness of the drugs being used to treat the cancer & can put extra stress on the body organs. As far as I concerned putting trust in the knowledge of your cancer treatment team is key. If there is some therapy that may help they will tell you.

It's a made up 'friendly' name for cyanide. There is no scientific or biological basis for a vitamin called b-17. It has a few other names too, but bottom line is that it is a poison and can kill you.

The Rise and Fall of Laetrile
http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Cancer/laetrile.html

"Summary
In 1980, the National Cancer Institute began a clinical study of laetrile in terminal cancer patients. "Conducted in collaboration with four major U.S. medical centers, the clinical tests showed that laetrile failed on four counts: it did not make cancer regress; it did not extend the life span of cancer patients; it did not improve cancer patients' symptoms; and it did not help cancer patients to gain weight or otherwise become more physically active. Laetrile and natural products containing it, such as apricot pits were thus found to be 'ineffective as a treatment for cancer.'" (Tyler)

"Moreover, laetrile has been banned by the FDA because of the risk of poisoning from its cyanide content." (Fetrow)

"It (cyanide) is also sometimes referred to as vitamin B17, although it is definitely not a vitamin." (Tyler)

Professional Evaluation / Critique
"The National Cancer Institute (NCI) sponsored an independent study of Laetrile with cancer patients. Fifty-four percent of the 178 patients had measurable cancer progression after 21 days of intravenous treatment with Laetrile. After 3 months, 91 percent had disease progression, and after 7 months, all patients' tumors had grown larger. Very few patients reported any change in their symptoms. Half of all patients in the study died within 5 months after starting treatment; within 8 months, 85 percent were dead." (National Cancer Institute)

Toxicity / Risks
"A clinical trial conducted at the Mayo Clinic and three other prominent cancer centers found no anticancer effect but found significant blood levels of cyanide in some of the patients." (Hafner)

"Symptoms following cyanide poisoning include sudden, severe vomiting and epigastric pain followed by syncope [a faint], lethargy, coma, and seizures. Chronic consumption of plants high in cyanogenic glycosides has resulted in optic atrophy [a wasting away of the optic disc], nerve deafness, spastic paraparesis [a partial paralysis of the lower extremities], ataxia [failure of muscular coordination], clonus [alternate muscular contraction and relaxation in rapid succession], and peripheral neuropathy." (Fetrow)

No documented scientific evidence exists supporting the use of cyanide (b17, laetrile) to treat cancer patients.

while reading a book, you're stimulating the human brain. You transform your reading and literacy skills therefore you in the process, are more literate. Despite having today's modern tools, you nevertheless still need to have the ability to read.
While you're watching t.v. can be good fun, it isn't doing anything to your brain.

The bottom line to Laetril is yes, it does work, and no, it's not proven by "science" simply because if it was proven and they allowed it to be sold there would be no more chemo or radiation treatments. Chemo itself has a base of laetril, that's where chemo is derived from... why would they put laetril in Chemo drugs if it didn't work? Makes you say "hmmm..." doesn't it? Chemotherapy drugs are one of the largest money making drugs for all pharma companies, if you took chemo from their stock many would be so devastated they would be forced to file bankruptcy. My father had a very rare form of cancer, Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, rare here, but not in Asia. He was treated by three "specialists" who were highly regarded in their field here in St Louis (surgery, chemo and radiation), and they declared him in remission after treatment was over. He stayed that way, until, surprisingly, four years later, poof, its back, even though he did everything he was supposed to do (diet, exercise, vitamins). After much review, the "specialists" missed something major about his form of cancer... it has a very strong link to the virus Epstein-Barr (EBV). To make a long story short, my father went to Houston for a clinical study to rid his system of EBV, he chewed apricot seeds and took enzymes daily (a must for anyone on Laetril) and he is now completely cancer free with no side effects from any drugs, simply because he did not take any conventional treatment for a cure. Apricot seeds has the highest concentration of Amygdalin (or as it's called Laetril and B17) of any food on earth. Our entire family chews apricot seeds religiously now, one for every 10 pounds of body weight as a preventative, and we've never been healthier. I think it's hilarious that some say (as one user put it in another thread) "two of those things will kill you!" So untrue. The compound is cyanidic, however the cyanide is not released until it meets a cancer cell, and at that time the cancer cell gobbles up the cyanide as it would sugar in your system, in effect, killing the cell, which your body then disposes of. If there is no cancer in your system, the cyanidic properties of the seed is flushed through your system, never released, no harm, no foul. If you need proof that it works (and a much better explanation than what I just gave!), and the cover-up behind the entire system, read "A World Without Cancer" by G. Edward Griffin with an OPEN MIND. Forget everything you think you know, because it's true, I've lived it for years. The worst part of medicine is that it has taught the modern world that cancer is a tumor, which couldn't be further from the truth. It's a tumor, so we have to cut it out, or burn it out, or poison it! Cancer is not a tumor, it is a immune abnormality in your system, and the tumor is a bi-product of that abnormality. Get rid of the tumor, get rid of the cancer? Sorry. It doesn't work, never has, and it never will. You have to get to the root of the problem, correct the underlying issues in your system to cure cancer, and yes, cancer can, and is, cured every single day in and out of this country. Just ask my father.
