Someone answers a question by saying something like "the bible is 100 percent true, even the story of noah's ark." Then someone posts a question asking, "do christians really think noah brought two of every animal?" Which starts a huge flame war all over this b*tch.

Is that how it is? I mean, is that how it is?

We have consciously chosen to retain the spirit of game when we knew that there is a chance of human error when the umpire judges on his own while declaring or rejecting an LBW in cricket.
Similarly, the Yahoo Answers might have to pay that 'small' price when we decided to have answers from 'real' people. The benefits are immense, and the care required is very nominal if the users co-operate with the Yahoo Answers Team to ensure that users adhere to Community Guidelines.

Unfortunately, many who participate in the R & S forum are adamant about trying to prove to the others that their viewpoint is truth. I and others have learned that no matter what our viewpoint is, there will always be someone out there with the opposing view so I don't usually waste my time answering questions that are obviously asked to bait me or other Christians. I have a personal realationship with my God and I know he exists. I don't need to, nor can I prove that to anyone else. It has to be a personal choice. People have the choice to make and I have made mine.

Julian
you're getting sucked in
Dont

People have a different mentality
Some are helpful and here to help
Others are stressed out and are here to destress

If you judge people they will just mock you
Dont play in to that

Youre rising to the bait hon
Relax chill drink some mulled wine and think of the joys of living
Let others do what they need to do

and be at peace
:O)

Yahoo! Answers is just a tool. In asking about the "mentality" of Y!A, are you really asking, "Do people really use their brains when they ask and answer questions?"....

I mean, we are all interacting here. Perhaps we could really THINK about how we would respond if we were in another person's position. "How would I feel if I believed *this* and someone said *that* to me?" "How would I react?" "What am I trying to get people to think about?" "How can I effectively get my point across, without causing offense?"

And the real clinchers... without which Y!A would have no point...

"What is the other person trying to say?" and "What can I learn from this?"

Are you asking about the users or the staff? If it is the staff, do not dare to say anything like we are at war with Islam. They will suspend you. People do not like to hear or know the truth here. Just as the Bible says, that in the last days, people will not want to hear truth, and the truth will not be in them.
If you refer to the users, then yes, that is really how it is here.

Unfortunately. Of course the flood is actually from ancient Akkadian legend, which was borrowed by the Sumerians in the Epic of Gilgamesh, and then modified for it's appearance in the Bible, and it dates back over 10,000 years, so chances anyone on Y!A is going to be able to tell you how many of what went where is slim.

For some, but not others. Some of us wait and watch. We sift the wheat from the chaff. When a juicy question comes up, we pounce on it like piranhas, and 'star' it so others like us can join in the frenzy. We answer carefully and honestly, and sometimes fearless, and sometimes funny. We 'thumbs up' each other in a kind of spiritual 'high five'. We study each others answers and we connect in strange type of virtual relationship outside of ordinary space and time. To me, that's the mentality of y/a.

-----(that's my mentality, anyways :)

Yes, people answer questions on both sides of the fence. There is a lot of hypocrisy also.

Either that or vice versa. Those are interspersed with trolls, meaningingless observations meant to sound witty, scraps of poetry, the laments of the ocassional martyr, and aspiring preachers standing on soapboxes.
