Jesus spoke of it being only a wicked and adulterous generation that would seek after a sign (as the Pharisees asked Him to perform). Biblically I've learned that if there is any uncertainty about a matter in my mind, God will confirm His Word to let me know whether He Wills me to do it. If I receive no confirmation then I know it was not 'of God'. Would you agree that DOESNT fall under waiting for a "sign"...if only because the Pharisees asked in unbelief of Christ...and I ask believing?

There is a difference between a "sign" and a "confirmation". A sign is for belief without faith. Confirmation begins with belief and just making sure it is of God.

Take Gideon, for example. He received the Word of God as being of Him. He was even willing to do as He commanded. However, Gideon wanted proof that it was definitely God speaking to Him, so he used a fleece to confirm His Word. He was then able to go out with confidence and faith to perform that which God wanted him to do.

The wicked and adulterous generation can be easily illustrated by some of the questions here on Yahoo. One example is "If god exists, why doesn't he just prove it?" To these, God will give neither sign, nor attention.

DC, your example is correct. God will confirm His Word to you, but I would not call it a "sign". What He will do is open doors where you never expected, hear something on the radio that was JUST what you read. Bring another sister who says, "God is tell me to tell you..." It could be anything. This I would call confirmation and not a "sign".

There is nothing at wrong in seeking to get specifics from God, so long as you are not seeking confirmation:
1. To avoid doing what you know to do but don't want.
2. To justify doing what you shouldn't.
3. Because you are lacking in faith of God's goodness.

Gideon, you will recall, was not rebuffed for seeking confirmation. Israel had suffered for a long time at the hands of their enemies, and he didn't think of himself as being much of anything, so God graciously encouraged him. Mary questioned the angel since a child without intercourse was out of the question, and was not reproved; Zechariah, however, was reproved since a) he was carrying out priestly duties under the law and a lack of faith was very serious and b) it was not completely unheard of for an elderly couple to have a child through ordinary relations. Remember Abraham and Sarah?

The pharisees asking for a sign did so in the face of signs He was already performing and out of a motivation to maintain their own status. God is nobody's performing monkey, so they were rebuffed.

Hope this helps!
Tom

No, confirmation is something that you do when you see a sign. You confirm that you see a sign from God, for example.

Receiving verification in your spirit from God is not a sign. It is just that..a verification of your understanding of what he wants you to do. You may also receive a sense of unrest or lack of peace in your spirit when and if you go against what he has asked you to do. At least, I know I do. God Bless.
