I have to agree that it is barely sufficient to run XP. If you get a legitimate version of XP, you'll be wanting to install the security updates and service packs as well and if that is the case, the minimum specs for XP SP2 are even heavier. Add security software, products such as Office and any peripherals and things will be even more overloaded.

No, the hardware will still perform at the same speed. However, XP is more bloaty then 2000 so it will run slower. A better way would be to upgrade to Linux as that runs well on older hardware.

Yes, its a much larger package, 2000 is about right for this spec.
I seen it work before but I dont think its any joy using it.

I have a similar spec on my home PC and it works like a dream under XP - make sure you have plenty of hard-disk space...

320MB ram is nothing you should upgrade wether you want to use 2000 or xp.
