We found an old trunk in the attic. It is an old Navy one that was probably used in WW II, or maybe even WW I. You carry it long ways but to open it you sit it up on it's end and it opens like a book. On the left side are hangers and a large pocket and on the right are drawers. It has a name and is addressed to Presidio, SF, CA from Brooklyn, NY. I've had no luck in finding any information on it so need help in knowing exactly what we have.

If it is from the Navy it is a Sea Chest. from WWI era when all of a seaman's belongings had to go in a small space and be mobile. Many sailors "bunked" in combat spaces and when GQ sounded those items had to be "struck below". Navy slang for stowed at or below the water line!

If you would like to get rid of it my wife would love to decorate with it!

The military called them a foot-locker because they were placed at the foot of the bed.
