I've been feeding a red-wing blackbird at work for over a year. He loves peanuts and I get him to 'sing' before he gets any. Lately, when I pull up in the parking lot, he is waiting for me and circles my head the whole time I'm walking into the building. Now he has started to actually crash into my head. What is his problem? Is he trying to hurt me or what? Today he heard my voice and flew in the back door looking for me, so the other workers say. What is going on? Why is he getting so aggressive after all this time?

When when he sees you he know you have food. So what is he going to, but try and follow you. He has realized you are not a threat and trusts you. It sounds like he was either trying to follow you and hit into you or he was trying to land on your shoulder. He just likes you that's all. Wouldn't you like someone if they kept giving you money for no reason? I bet you would. I would. Besides birds are alot smarter than you think it wouldn't just attack something that not only feeds it, but is 100 times it's size. You just proved that wild birds can recognize individuals. Good job.

If you show fear, birds recognize that and manipulate you. While a budgie bite can pinch and sting a little, it's not that bad. Just don't freak out if he bites or he will bite harder. Only pet birds on their head. Petting a bird on it's belly or back can stimulate them and then you will have a bird that's in love with you and can lead to feather picking and emotional issues if you don't give them enough attention.

you have been giving him so many peanuts that he associates you with food and he expects you to give him food every time he sees you. you should probably not give him any more food, or at least give him a lot less peanuts. this singing he is doing is probably on his own accord and is used as a way of begging for food. he expects to get food from you all the time. cut down on the treats and he will be less aggressive. it will be hard for a while. he will probably keep attacking you for a while and then start to settle down once he realizes you will not give him food any more.

Sounds like you've bonded nicely and he wants to be with his flock member. Lucky you! I think it is cute that he comes looking for you when he hears your voice.

Have you thought about getting a bird feeder and filling it every day? This should satisfy his hunger and his need for you to care for him. By the way, don't worry that he will become dependent on you for food -- you're probably one of many food sources for him.

The bird sees you as a food source. Maybe he has become too dependent on you for food and is hungry and frustrated that you aren't feeding him more. If you stop feeding him he will eventually leave you alone and find food else where.
