I feel we are all inclined by nature to pray to God. We were created to believe and affirm that their is a God even those who state they don't believe are put into situations where they call out to God for help. Most of us rarely ask God for things verbally, we usually pray with our hearts and we do so affirming that God can hear us even if the person beside us can't. It seems most blame God because its easier than to stand up and say perhaps we are being punished for our misdeeds such as fornication, stealing, killing unjustly, worshipping other things besides God whether its another god, money, the opposite sex, and so forth. We have a tendency to blame everyone for our problems. We blame traffic when we are late to work, we blame the school system if our children aren't doing well, we blame fast food restuarants for the obesity epidemic, we blame some diseases on genetics, but how often do we say perhaps this thing happened to me because I've done........ And while we aren't expected to be perfect we surely aren't expected to make the same mistakes more than once.
Those who do not believe have always been a minority and many of them do believe but are upset about something that happened in their lives maybe the death of a loved one, developing an illness, etc. very few are raised to believe that no God exist.

We have been created to have a courting with God. human beings turn to Him in circumstances of hardship. They blame God because of the fact they say if there replaced right into a God he might end suffering. The catastrophes are brought about through our sin and how we've taken care of the planet.

I do not and never have prayed to any deity even when my mother was trying to raise me as a baptist. I will not turn to an unproved entity even the my darkest hours (and I've been there I've already almost died once). I do not blame any unproved entity for what goes on in my life - good or bad - either as it is all my responsibility.

there is an old saying:
There are no atheists in a foxhole.
yes when people need God they will pray and sometimes even promise to get right with Jesus. After they get through the situation (sometimes amzingly) they revert back to their old ways.
some do eventually accept Jesus.

We are brought up in that tradition.People are desperate and they think a cry to god will help them not knowing he has no ears to hear what you say.

Desperation I'd say..It's probably a learned response rather the instinctive.

Nope - it's a conditioned response. Ever heard of Pavlov's dogs?

Desperation, nothing more. Hardly a validation of any theology.
