I am disabled/retired. I have been disabled since I was 39. I am now 63 Believe me it is no fun. Being a jerk got me disabled. I worked 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. I was a machinist/ mechanic. It was heavy work & I lifted something I should not have. I had 3 back operations over 9 years They took 5 disc& 2 nerves. As for that young man being a jerk. He is entitled.I was wounded in the right ankle inNAM. I am lucky. I still have both legs. I was 19 when I came home from Nam & was beaten by 4 thugs in a NYC bus station just because I was defending my country in a very unpopilar war.I also was spit on in my own town. This young man may be a jerk in your eyes but at least he did his duty. I still dont see how he could beat you from a wheel chair.I would not have been that close , knowing his temper. As to the VETS who answered this question, I salute you. It is MY pleasure to be a comrade in arms. I hope someday we VIETNAM VETS get the respect we are due. I just hope I live that long .

One doesn't have to have permission to be a jerk..he can be a jerk whether he is walking, hopping or four wheeling... As far as I am concerned life ain't about who is a jerk and who isn't..its about not being influenced by anyone who is not of the caliber that I prefer in a human being.. A jerk is always going to be a jerk.. why would you want to allow someone like that have a command and control over your life?

Most people maintain the same temperament. If they were jerks before they were disabled, they are jerks after being disabled.
Some of my Vietnam veteran friends had suffered from post traumatic stress, and it made some of them really mean people. I am talking about domestic violence.
Many of us Vietnam-era veterans just want to forget the war and don't really want others to know we were in the military. Very few of us have used many of the veterans benefits. I have some friends who are suffering from physical problems related to Agent Orange, but they are mild-mannered people. They basically want to live and let live.

Aren't pompous arrogant jerks that way due to their personalities? It isn't something that happens to them, but the way they view the world.

A guy in a wheel chair beat you up? Get real...this post is soooooo bogus. If this is real (which it isn't) he is one tough hombre and/or you are a real pu55y. You probably deserved it. I've had to dicipline a couple of a55holes who thought that having a 50% hearing loss and shrapnel in my skull was funny. Too bad I could not run the memory tape I have in my brain that would show them what it is like to take human lives at close range. Guys like you would puke if you saw it.....

Sure. A person can even be a miserable jerk while claiming to be beaten up by someone who's disabled.

It's called ptsd. look it up. yes, he went too far and he had no right to beat you up, but after being in iraq and probably seeing dead bodies on a daily basis, including children used as weapons and having to kill people, you'd be ****** up too. you should be pissed, but give the guy a bit of a break.
By the way, I can't believe you would wish anyone "not to return from iraq." thats sick no matter how big of a dick he is.you should be ashamed.

Can a person, yes! Should they, NO!
I mean yes they are entitled to the same respect that all of us veterans get, OH WAIT WE USUALLY DON'T GET ANY!!
I have seen it alot I mean yes it is tragic, but it was a choice they made, just as it was a choice I made.
