Likely someone came up with a rhyme for bruising and that meant "looking for" and put the two together. There are many couples like that in English, like fat cat, roly-poly, and hundreds more. Bruising was probably slang at one time for a beating. After a while these things get palely stale lol, and then new ones have to be devised.
