The fifth amendment was meant to keep people from being forced into accusing themselves or incriminating themselves. The fact that it is a fundamental right should let you know that it could never go too far! It keeps us from being tortured & forced to confess to crimes. Not everyone accused is guilty!

The 5th amendment itself does not go to far. The way it is applied by some judges may go to far on occasion.
