That is the overdrive on/off switch. Pressing that button will illuminate a light on the dash that says O/D off. Turning off the overdrive while driving in stop and go traffic and when in mountainous terrain will ease the strain on the transmission as it will not be shifting into and out of overdrive. The transmission will last longer. On open roads and highway speeds use overdrive as it will give you the best gas mileage as with overdrive engaged it allows the engine to operate at lower RPMs at cruising speeds.

You have an E4OD trans. The button is for overdrive & you should leave it on all the time except for when coming down a steep grade or when towing. If you drive around you will save gas in overdrive (its like having another gear).

the od stands for over drive a lower gear ratio for highway driving that will kick the trans down in a lower gear for better gas miles. for example while driving on a longer strech of road wach the rpms raise up when you turn off the od and come back down when you activate it. most people leave it on for the best gas miles for veh unless drive every day in the city!

You can turn the overdrive on or off. I only use my overdrive when I'm bookin' it up a hill or if I've got a heavy load in my car (I have a suzuki sidekick).

I don't use it often. I find I use more gas when it's on.
