Hi! I am a vet tech at a feline only hospital. De skunking takes about an hour--- be prepared.

I know you don't want to hear about Tomato juice, so... go to your local pet store. Get a special deskunking shampoo and pet eyewash, then stop at your local drug store and get a couple of boxes of Massengil vinegar and water douche ( vinegar and water itself would also work - Vinegar neutralizes the odor) and Johnson and Johnson Baby shampoo.

1st wash out kitty's eyes with eyewash to relieve burning/ itching. Then carefully (make sure not to get it in kitty's eyes )shampoo and rinse for at least 15 minutes with deskunking shampoo.

Towel dry, then rinse again and apply the douche to kitty's fur (again keep it out of the cats eyes) and leave it on 10-15 minutes. Rinse. Shampoo the kitty a last time with baby shampoo. Rinse well and then let kitty alone to stop hating you fo awhile.

Ok, I won't say tomato juice, but I don't know what else to use. I have a minature potbellied beagle. He's potbellied cause he ain't missed any meals. Thus he's not quick enough to get away from a skunk he loves to chase down. I go thru about a gallon of the stuff a month. It works, don't cost much, and washes down the tub drain like a dream.

You might want to call a vet and ask. If the spray got into the eyes, nasal passages, or any open sores, it's going to irritate or infect your animal. And you might want to check your pet very thoroughly for any scratches or bites because skunks have been known to be rabid.
The vet's office usually has better odor remover than any home remedy.

I have a dog that got "skunked". My vet recommended a mixture of

Dawn dish detergent - to brake up the oil -
Peroxide - to neutralize
and pet shampoo

It took a few washings but it did tame the odor quite a bit in a very short time.

I know you didn't want to hear it, but if you mix tomato juice and lemon juice and let it sit on them for a while (at least 10 minutes), then rinse with a baking soda solution, it takes out most of the smell.
The baking soda rinse should have enough baking soda to make the water milky, but not enough to make it pasty. You will be brushing baking soda out of their fur for a while, but it's worth it.
I have used this combination several times with my dogs and it works.

I think you should take your cat to the vets. They have stuff. Good luck. And give my best to your cat!
