As a lifelong atheist, I've always been curious about how people who seem otherwise reasonable and rational can justify their belief in a supernatural deity. So my question is this: Can anyone honestly produce legitimate, empirical evidence (not scripture and not complete lapses in logic like "the universe is too complex not to have been created by an intelligent being") to support the belief that there is a god? I promise to listen to whatever you say with an open mind. C'mon, true believers... this is your big chance to convert a heathen and make points with the Big Guy...

No, I can't provide you empirical evidence to the existence of God. I can only provide examples from my life that, as I am sure you would tell me, are probably flawed and biased at least to some extent. But then again, I'm not out to try to convert anybody either ...

I personally see God in everything around me. I'm not trying to build the "complex universe" strawman here, but I just feel God in the littlest things ... for example, there is an enzyme in our body that has no other purpose than to unzip the double helix of our DNA and zip it back together again.

This is just how I personally feel. I don't expect it to change your views. If you've been an atheist your whole life, its not my place to try to convince you otherwise.

All right , logic !! . Let me ask you some question and you
can take it from there . Do you have mother and is she your
real mother ? how do you know ? . Do you have grand parents ,are they your real grand parents and if so how do
you know ? . How about Adolf Hitler was he real ? how do
you know ? Did he really kill thousands of Jews , if so how
do you know ?, what about George Washington , was he
the first president of the USA , if so , how do you know ?
What about Albert Einstein , was he really who they say he
was , if so how do you know ? what about Julius Cesar was
he the ruler of Rome ! , how do you know , Christopher Columbus did he discover the America's , if so how do you
know ? , you see , we can go down thru history and look &
read and hear history past down from the ages and believe
it . How many things have you just belived for face value with
out even questioning it and why ? The Bible is the inerrant
word a God . No other book can make that claim , plus due
you really think you are the first Atheist or any body for that
matter to challange the Bible !! NO of course not , right ,
scientist , archeologist , believers , non believers , every
religion in the world have challanged it . Yet it is still the all time best seller today !! It has survived burnings ,destruction
etc ., etc.,. It is one of the best history book in the world . The
science community and atheist and other are always trying
to disprove the Bible and to their enlightenment they proved
the Bible to be true and accurate , not very accurate but ,
right on the money accurate . From dig sites to findings, even
the walls of Jerico , Sodom & Gomorrah as well as many
others have been proven to be . Why do you believe , really
anything at all and not the Bible . God gives you a choice and
you choose the path that is wide and well traveled before you.
You can change and God is waiting for you to do what is right
and He will walk it with you . Got to go sorry , God Bless You..

I would love to extend to you the same chance to convert a "True Believer" to the Non side. Can you offer any Legitimate, empirical evidence (not Text books and complete lapses in logic like "some guy in a lab coat said we are goo." I promise to listen to whatever you say with an open mind. This is your big chance to convert a saint and make points with absolutely nothing and make life pointless and not worth living.

Not at this point in time. Faith is required. Have a drink!

You do realize that the "super" in "supernatural" means "above", don't you? That means a "supernatural" deity would be "above" the physical realm. That means you are requesting empirical evidence for a being who, if He exists, no empirical evidence can be offered since this would mean He isn't supernatural. In other words, lack of empirical evidence shouldn't be taken as evidence of lack, especially when the criterion is impossible to meet

Since you know that no one will be able to produce an MPEG of Jesus rising from the dead, I will assume that you really have no intention of being convinced that there really is a God. However, if you will accept witnesses as evidence, I will tell you that my family and my extended family are all very devout Christians, and have always been extemely blessed. We are happy, loving people, and things work out for us. When someone is stressed, we pray, and good things happen. I don't want to sound like a cheesy bumper sticker, but as an atheist you cannot possibly know the peace that comes with faith in Christ. As a practicing Christian, He makes himself evident every day to me, and grants peace and comfort to those who ask Him for it. You would be a lot happier person if you would give Him a chance.

Read the response of the poster below 'zzzzz' with no name given. She states that she knows 'without any doubt that there is a God and no one could ever convince me differently.'

First thing we learned in our critical thinking class. If you're having a discussion or trying to prove a point to someone who has ADMITTED that no information or logic or proof can change their minds, then their argument is not BASED on either information, logic or proof and you are therefore wasting your time.

The problem with you question is that you are looking for specific evidence. So while you think you are open minded actually you are not. There is tons of evidence but you are not willing to be open to it, and I'll bet you haven't really look very hard. So that tells us you are not seeking, your heart is not open to the truth. So why post this? Do you truely, honestly, believe that you will open your mind and heart if the right answer comes around. You are going to have to figure it out for you, no one can make you!

I never debate with an atheist. What is the point of it. I'm a Christian but that's who I am and you are who you are. I respect everyone it's not my place to do your walk and to find your place in life. I can only worry about my
personal experiences and how I can better myself. Can I still get 10 points ha!
