My TSH results were 4.70 and the ref. range is 0.44-4.37. What exactly does this mean if it is in the" ORH-Reference range high?" How does it affect you if it is too high

The TSH test will diagnose if your thyroid gland is underactive, overactive, or normal. From your reading of 4.70, your thyroid gland is slightly underactive. TSH stimulates the formation of thyroid hormone. TSH is short for thyroid stimulating hormone. The TSH level rises when thyroid hormone levels in the blood fall. This is your body's way of trying to produce more thyroid hormone. But your body cannot do it. So your TSH level is a little high. The doctor will probably put you on a low dose of Synthroid or Levoxyl.

Your test is just slightly high, which can be normal or just reactional. This is a test for hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. For it to be diagnostic, your T3 and T4 levels should be down, which is the criteria for hypothyroidism. Remember that you have to have symptoms in order for it to be a diagnostic too
