In California I just bought gas for $3.59 a gallon - and it took over $50 to fill up my tank. Sad. I will, unfortunately, be forced to purchase gas until I can no longer afford it. Taking the bus or riding a bike just isnt an option, sadly. The oil people knows this and this is how they profit.
Tips:have your air filter replaced, dont use your car as a storage space with heavy things (takes more gas), dont accerate quickly and try not to keep your windows rolled up (creates less of a drag effect).

I cut my driving by 3/4 when gas prices hit $2.00. I now fill up only once every 2 to 3 weeks as opposed to once a week. I got a new job that is only 1 1/2 miles from home instead of 10 miles. My car is driven only one weekend a month, otherwise it just gets parked on Friday and not restarted until Monday morning. When I do use my car on the one driving weekend, I combine as many different stops as possible. If there is less than 3 places I have to go, I simply wait till another weekend when I have a third destination I need to go to. Shopping trips are also stock up trips where I buy enough of what I need to last me for a while

I am on a fixed income...i have 'curtailed' sense it reached 2.80 a gallon...where i used to use 3 tanks a month, i am now down to just around 1 and a half a month....and even that is difficult.
It wont be the industrial elements that will bear this burden... that's not the objective of the oil industry.. it will be the general population who finance all options, alternatives, equivalency's, replacements, substitutions, attainability's, makeshifts, or proxies that will become resource to us..
This IS an industrial extortion of the working class of Americans..they are NOT going to assume the costs of development of a compatible fuel...they don't HAVE to...
WE will do that for them.

Being a society that is dependent upon gas for traveling to and from work ... and visiting others .. I guess I would have to say after 4 bucks a gallon .. I wouldn't be doing much traveling .. except for necessity. I limit going places now unless I can schedule it all in one trip .. go get what you need and get home . I would think if they don't lower gas prices soon alot of businesses .. like places you go on vacation .. are going to loose alot of business. Anyway you look at it its bad for everyone except the gas and oil company's. I am a school bus driver .. takes alot to keep a fleet of 100 rolling.

I would say gas is becoming more and more like gold and diamonds. People wont stop using gas because as of right now there is no alternative fuel source everywhere you go. people wont stop using gas because its the cheapest and most abundant fual source we have to offer, until hydrogen is mainstream we will continue using gas. Gas is also now 3.25 where i live and diesel is only 2.75 really sad.

Remember the first big spike after Katrina and Rita?
The reason given was, "Blame it on Katrina and Rita they caused extensive damage".Are Americans to still blame Katrina and Rita? or extreme use increases over the last 5-10 years?or good old fashioned GREED.

I have my own opinion, but today I saw a report on a nationwide poll that said people would seriously curtail their driving when it reached $4.30.
