with the love they are suppose to show ALL people let alone their fellow Christians? I am speaking about several responses to the Catholic questions asked by Catholics meant for Catholics to answer but, are nosed into by certain people here with an agenda most insulting. You know who you are. I am thinking that some of these people even profess to be "Pastors?"

Hi Midge, I will try to explain it this way, God made the Sabbath for man and not man for the Sabbath but in saying this Jesus was telling the Pharisee`s how rigid they had become in the law and this rigidness was the cause of their spiritual elitism and superiority over the poor and uneducated.
They had developed a holier than thou mindset that kept people inferior to themselves.
I truly think that this has happened to these hard core fundamentalists over the decades, they have had nothing but Bible classes in their lives, and have become law givers unto themselves, they actually do what the Pharisee`s did, they strain at a Gnat and swallow a Camel, and some of their Pastor`s are wholly responsible for this and have much to answer for.

You can't get anywhere debating with a fundy. They are taught and apparently believe that you are dirt under their and their God's shoe so they aren't gonna hear you. I was one for a long time and now have found my true path with Wicca and witchcraft so I know about dealing with upset and very violant fundies. It is not pleasant and hopefully you won't have problems with them in the future. My best advise is to just not talk to them at all. Staying away from them is the really the only way to live peacefully in an area where there are a lot of them. Not fair I know but reality all the same.

You can't like (or love) what you can't respect. Most Evangelicals do not respect Catholic Christianity at all. Most evangelicals consider themselves really "christian" with catholics being not really christian. Most catholics are shocked to hear this. Catholics refer to Protestants as "seperated brethren in Christ". Since most evangelicals can't respect catholic beliefs (or try to understand, for the most part) they feel they are right, catholics are wrong, and the discussion is over for them at that point. Even if evangelicals feel that Catholocism is a cult (and some do), they should still try to love, as our Lord said to do. I see a lot of hypocrisy in that situation on the part of Evangelicals.

It is clear that they are ignoring the most fundamental of Christ's teachings. I think they should re-read the stories about Jesus' interactions with Samaritans. Jesus was a Jew, and the Samaritans agreed with the Jews on many things, but they had some differences. For example, they believed in worshiping not in Jerusalem, but at Mt. Gerizim. But when Jesus encountered the Samaritans, he treated them with respect and love. He was not rude to them just because they had different doctrines. He did not tell them they were going to hell, or anything like that.

I'm afraid that some people are missing the forest for the trees, when it comes to Jesus' teaching. They are just neglecting the heart and soul of his teaching. He said the whole commandments could be summed up in "Love God and love your neighbor."

Probably they belong to reform denominations. They may come from countries which suffered catholic persecution centuries ago.

At that time catholicism and protestantism but less so, had imbibed islamic style concepts of using force to compel religious belief. That created hard feelings.

We are commanded to forgive, but people often maintain old prejudices.

Why reconcile anything when you can just say "Oops, sorry. God forgive me" and anything you say or do is okay?
