The law enforcement officer is not required to show you his radar gun reading. Signing the ticket merely means that you agree to plead either guilty or not guilty in court. You're not admitting any guilt by signing the ticket.

If you go to court, it is the responsibility of the State of Iowa to prove that you were speeding. Typically, they do this by getting the officer on the witness stand, who will testify that his equipment was tested that day, was found to be in working order, and that when activated on you, it said "47 miles per hour."

Courts tend to believe law enforcement officers, and it is likely that the court will find you guilty unless you can enter evidence that casts reasonable doubt on it.

I don't think they HAVE to show you the radar gun, but it would have been nice. Anyway, go to court, tell the judge what happened. Then, if the officer even shows up for court, call him to the stand and ask him when the last time was that his radar gun was calibrated and how long has it been since he was certified and trained to use the gun. Then ask if he has any documentation to support his answers. He should at least have a record or log book for his radar gun showing its daily/weekly/etc calibrations and maintenance. Check to see what the state law requirements in Iowa are for both of those questions before you go to court) There is a good chance the officer won't even show up to court, which means you won't get to question him, which (in Texas anyway) means the ticket is dropped. Good luck

My guess is that you were doing 47. We don't have to show you the radar gun don't be mad at the officer that you got caught take it as a lesson learned and slow down.

They do not have to show you the gun. They'll tell you all about that and many other fascinating driving facts at traffic school.

The officer must have been very patient with you. You wouldn't have made it to 10 times with me.
