I am a Christian. I believe that Christians should defer to scientists in questions of science. I believe that the Bible should not be read literally as the inerrant word of God. Why not let people like me into the discussion?

Because they are the loudest and the most vocal. There are the ones who cause the most pain. Its sort of like the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I wish more Christians spoke out against them.

It is interesting to me that more liberal Christians have apparently stepped off the lectern in the cultural debates. The Anglican community has even been threatened with schism when one particular branch decided to not take the literal interpretation of the Bible regarding homosexuality.

At this point, a majority of Americans do not believe in the theory of evolution. If nothing else, this points out the abject failure of liberal Christianity. I hate to be blunt, but unless you get in there and give people a reason to question fundamentalism from a believer's point of view, Atheism will remain the only alternative available. Atheistic points of view at least MAKE sense. I've yet to hear a believer's point of view that didn't defer to either unreasonable authority or subjective experience.

Because the evangelicals often portray the picture that the non-believers want to see as Christians. Very few are willing to take time to see that few of us bear any resemblance nor share beliefs with the evangelicals. But what would the fun be in that.

I agree...but fundamentalists/literalist do not believe that you are a Christian if you do not believe the Bible in it's literal translation. However, they are the first ones to justify their own deeds, and twist scripture, by cross-referencing, etc...when they want to sway the audience.

I am very upset that the fundamentalists have co-opted the term "christian" to mean only that believe as they do. They have tarnished the word "christian" so badly, that the word is no longer one of honor, integrity and spirituality...but, rather one of hate, arrogance and bitterness.

You are the kind of Christian that I respect. You, I would enjoy talking to. You show your religion is a favorable light as a person who is intelligent and spiritual.

Because the site-managers are all atheists and represent fundies as the only legitimate spokesperson for all Christians everywhere, basically because their views are extremist and easily ridiculed.
