It is a common misconception that Gainsborough painted both The Blue Boy and Pinky. But the fact is that Thomas Lawrence painted Pinky.

Thomas Gainsborough painted both and they are both part of the permanent Huntington Collection at the Huntington Library in San Marino (South Pasadena), California. And they are always on view for the general public.

Although The Huntington has a fine collection of English Masters on display more people go, believe it or not, to go through the famous Botanical Gardens there.

Why is red associated with stop and green with go? Or blue with cold? Or black with bad and white with good? If you know the answer to these, then maybe we can know why pink is associated with femininity. My theory on it is that pink is a very floral colour in nature.
