They ask me to include my charge account number and type...I'm not entirely comfortable doing this. I know they're a legitimate company and everything, but can they just go into my credit card files and snoop around like that? I guess they need to to back up my claim?

They have it next to the list I'm supposed to make of the stuff that's missing, i.e. if I paid for it w/a credit card they want the number...

I wouldn't bother asking the adjuster why they need it. I would suggest just putting down the last 4 or 5 digits of the account numbers and see if that flies. I usually don't ask people for their complete acct numbers and it hasn't caused any trouble in handling claims. I have never tried to "go into" anybodies account. Besides, I would assume they would need more than the account number to gain access to your acount info anyway.

If they want/need more info let them ask you for copies of your statements. Then you can redact the account numbers on the copies you send them.

I am with you. You can probably provide them with copies of your credit card bills with the number crossed out or cut off.
I was in insurance for 30 years and never heard of that one.

Really it doesn't matter because items in your car are not covered by homeowners insurance, unless of course you lied and said the items were in your home (fraud). I hope you have comprehensive coverage on your car which I'm guessing you don't or youd have filed the claim with your auto insurance company.

They don't need your charge account number. They will ask for statements, but you can take a marker and black out the account numbers. *I* certainly would.

I would inquire why they need that information. Unless they are going to deposit your payment for your claim into that account I wouldn't see why they would need it.

I think you may be misreading the form. Call the claims rep or your agent and have it clarified.
