I often get distracted and since I know the prayers by heart I can say them and think of other things. Any tips to share?

Just so you know, 95% of the Rosary is straight from the Bible. Maybe you ought to take a second look.

Pastor Art - Jesus commanded us to pray the Our Father. Is it wrong to memorize that one? God bless you.

The Rosary is about meditating on the life of Christ and the Hail Mary's are a beautiful prayer (taken mostly from the Bible) to say while thinking about Jesus.
Some people repeat the mystery they are on (i.e. The Agony in the Garden of Gethsemene) after the first 5 Hail Mary's, then they say the last 5. It's like a little reminder in between in case you start to drift.
Others say a brief scripture verse or meditation after each Hail Mary, something that pertains to that particular mystery.
There is an excellent little booklet that helps in this endeavor. It's called How to Pray the Rosary Without Distraction. There are also many little booklets published which have a "Scriptural Rosary" with bible verses and meditations.

Pastor Art is something isn't he? He could really do with a visit from Mary. He is like a Samaritan trying to teach a Jewish man how to be Jewish. I like to look up other meditations than the regular ones to think about as I pray. Mother Angelica has some good meditations that perhaps you could find on the ewtn site. www.ewtncom

I have a folder and some small books with the relevant pictures and some thoughts on what each Mystery represents. Sometimes just looking at the pictures there as I pray helps maintain the focus.
Cheers :-)

when praying the rosary, meditate on the joyful, sorrowful mysterious, etc. It is natural for the mind to have different thoughts at once, just don't focus on them when they occur, just concentrate on Christ and Mary. God bless.

Try to stay out of a monotonous rhythm when saying the consecutive Hail Mary's keep yourself engaged in the words you are saying, rather then getting into a rhythm and simply letting your voice take over and your mind go on vacation.

Jesus told you NOT to pray the Rosary or any other repetitive prayer.
Prayer should come from the heart, not something you memorized.
The fact that you have trouble staying focused should be reason enough to know its wrong to even try.

Well I don't use a rosary to pray with, it's not in the bible that you need one and it specifically says to pray from your heart, not rehearsed prayers or repetitive stuff. Just go ahead and pray like you are talking to your friend. He is your friend and loves you...
