I am taking prozac, have been for about a year, my doc had originally put me on 20 mg and heard so many horror stories that it makes you sleep alllll the time and your always drowzy or sleeping...so I started to only take 10 mg. Well for the past few weeks I have been expierienceing lots of anxiety and they want to put me on 20 mg...but I am worried. Does anyone take 20mg and how are you throughout the day???

I was on Prozac for about 10 years, and I hated it. But I have to say it worked to get me out of my depression. I hated it, because of the side effects. Sexual, loss of short term memory, and - yes, I could sleep just about anytime I wanted to. I tried to quit many times, but the depression always caught up with me, and I tried just about every other SSRI out there and none of them worked as good as Prozac except for one - Serzone. But that one turned me into a maniac - I got mean - and freaked out and got mad if a cloud passed by that wasn't in the right shape - seriously!

Anyway - I finally met up with a Pyschiatrist who turned me onto Lexapro, which was fairly new at that time, and I was reluctant to give it a try, but I did, and it worked, and I was finally rid of the damn Prozac once and for all - I'M FREE!

What I'm getting at is, there are tons of SSRI's out there and it's in your best interest to try them until you have found the one that is right for you - the one that treats your symptoms, and gives you the least side effects. - Only you and your doctor can decide what is right for you to try, so talk to him honestly about what you are experiencing, and then give the medication a try.

Help is out there, and I know it is a pain to get off one drug, and then take another two or three weeks getting on another one, but it's worth it, if it means happiness for the rest of your life!

I took Prozac for years. At first it was great, then after time, it petered out. I just stopped taking it three months ago, and the withdrawal has been nothing less than pure hell! I would not recommend Prozac, nor any other antidepressant in this class (SSRI's). My advice to you would be to discuss this with your doctor and ask about taking a non-SSRI antidepressant. At three weeks, you shouldn't experience too much in the way of withdrawal, but your doctor may still want you to taper.

Everyone is different when it comes to drugs. Try the 20mg and give it a chance to work. If you feel bad or still feel anxious talk to your doctor for an adjustment. And Prozac isn't the only drug out there that could help you. Plus you may have built a tolerance to it and 20mg will help you like 10mg did at first.

I took 20 mg for years, it was a god send!
It helped me get out of depression and I felt great!
Just try it and contact your dr if you feel weird or anything, also remember that you won't see the full effects for a few weeks. But I felt better very quickly.
I never had any bad side effects from it.
