Because they believe you do worship Joseph Smith in the same way they worship Jesus. They also think that you think God was a man on another planet (what's funny about this one is that many Christians also believe God was a man - Jesus... so this one doesn't make much sense to me). And that polygamy thing... I've seen so many people bring that up, yet when I read up on it, the Mormons themselves quit doing that before I was born! (I'm 36) They think you believe that Jesus and Satan are "Spirit Brothers"... to which I can understand the basic explanation of this, but they tend to ignore any kind of explanation..... Most don't really know what Mormons believe as they look to Anti-Mormon sites to give them their info. But that is like me asking the Nazi's what the Jews are really like.... I won't get good info. They simply don't believe you believe in the same God or Jesus.

I think it's a stretch to say that Christians hate Mormons. What they do think is that Mormons have enough differing beliefs to not want to be classified together as a group. There is alot of theology that the Book of Mormon and the prophets of the LDS church have brought about that have no sure footing in accordance with the Protestant Bible. Some of this comes into play with the theory that Mormon theology holds that every good Mormon will one day have there own planet to be God over or the theory that God the Father also has a father or the theory that Jesus and Satan were once brothers. There are just alot of beliefs that don't come from the actual Bible itself and therefore Christians have a big problem with them.
You have to consider this. If I believe in a God who is the Alpha and Omega and has no one above Him, but you believe in a God that has a father, we believe in two different gods therefore we are not of the same faith.
In all of this I have no intention of criticizing. I just intend to show some of the difference and why they separate Mormons from the rest of the Christian crowd.

I can honestly say that i dont hate you, granted the first time i ever came in to contact with elders from the church i was feeling kinda sorry for myself and was quite disrespectful of your beliefs i am ashamed to say, but at the time i felt like that towards anyone of any religion, at the time my husband was serving in Iraq and i was feeling lower than i ever had, i actually ended up calling the elders back, dont ask why i still do not know until this day, i ended up going to church a number of times which i never thought i would do, reading the book of Mormon , and asking way more questions than the elders probably wanted of me, i was baptized even, but after a while the more i knew the more it didn't feel right for me, i couldn't believe in my heart that it was all true, i found alot of what i was told to be conflicting, but having said that the latter day saints were some of the nicest most caring and understanding people i have ever met, they helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life and i am eternally grateful for that, if anything i feel envious of those of you that have faith now, i only wish i could feel the way you do, but i will say that during my time with you i felt some amazing feelings and for a while brief as it was i did feel peace.

Actually it is wrong to judge by the people coming onto this web site many are very bigoted not just towards Mormons but many other religious denominations. The Cathloics for the most part are pretty nice to members of the church i think that is because they too are persecuted and hated. But just be the better Christian and show love to those around you.

I don't hate you. You are my brother. I don't agree with your religion, but you don't agree with mine either. I think the reason that many react to Mormons so viciously is because their teaching is misguided. Joseph Smith was a mere man, like many other religious men who have presented themselves falsely and as a result, many souls are lead astray. Some Christians are scared by this. Some Christians see this as a violation of the first commandment. Some Christians are angered on behalf of Jesus.
You're right, it's not our place to judge as to whether or you are going to Heaven or Hell, but we are suppose to use the sense God gave to choose between right and wrong and to see right from wrong. And I think it's wrong to mistreat others, period.

Mormons have persecution mania, go live in communist china witht he real christians who have to memorize the bible, have secret chruch meetings, and risk getting found out because someone might be working for th egovernment, and if decovered, they are beaten and sometimes killed. Or go be a christian in a Muslim country and try getting babtized and hope you are not shot for it, or killed for being found out that you became a christian and that you are no longer a Muslim. Sure Mormons were persecuted in the past, but not nowadays, as far as I know th emormons own the state of Utah when Iived there.

Well there are many answers to this question. But I have to say that most people act that was because they believe that their own religion is the only "right" path the God or whomever. What they dont understand scares them. I mean look back through the ages, more people have died by religious persecutions than anything ever recorded.
I really dont believe people even try to understand different religions other than their own. So I would take no offense by what anyone says or feels about yours. It only matters whether you believe and have faith in your own religion, and always respect what others believe.

Wow, that's terrible and yet so true. There are a lot of Christians out there that have yet to learn to truly except the fact that people believe in different things. Some christian people, when confronted with a person whose religion is different, can get angry because he/she doesn't know how to handle it. Not every christian is like this, but all Christians are representatives of their religion. I'm not sure what people have done to you, but I hope you take comfort in that not everybody hates you! BTW, I'm baptist so you know at least one person doesn't hate you all.

Mormon doctrine defines who Jesus is in a different way than what is Biblically defined and accepted by most other Christian Churches. There is a prevailing concern among other believers that individual Mormons who claim to have a personal relationship with Jesus may be worshiping a ‘different Christ’(2Cor.11:4, Gal.1:6-9).
