I get angry at the fact that we were even deployed to fight without an indisputable reason of WHY we are there. I have lost many comrades along with my left leg. I will gladly fight for my country if it was indeed under attack. But frankly, we were not and as a result, my fallen comrades and I had to suffer for our leader's greed.

In case you would like to know, some Iraqi citizens do appreciate us there. It just depends on where you are in the country.

According to the right-wing smear machine, since you question the wisdom of the policy, you don't support the troops, and want them to fail.

Since you are one of them, that means you don't support yourself and wish to be a failure.

Why do you hate yourself?

On a less snarky note, thanks for your service, since you obviously offered it in the right spirit. I'm sorry your trust was abused by the current administration.

The U.S. is still there to train and equipt the Iraqis while filling in the gap from their absense and also protecting themselves. It's not Warcraft where you can build your whole army in 15 minutes. It takes 3 months to train the Iraqis on a WWII type level where 2,000 American soldiers were dieing a day. The U.S. plans on training a half million total police and soldiers while replacing those that are lost through combat or quit. The U.S. has completely trained and equipted 1/3 of them and they are already on their own. Most now just have to be equipt and or have finishing touches on their training. Four of the 18 providences have been already handed over to the Iraqis. The offical estimate is that violence has dropped 50% from last May. It took 9 years of soldiers in Japan and Germany to rebuild both countries.

As far as being in Iraq, at least there is one legit reason and that Iraq failed to abide by the terms of surrender from the first Gulf War. The second attack was the part of the unconditional part that Saddam though ment conditional. As far as lies goes, The Maine explosion (helped cause the Spanish American War) was an accident labelled as sabatoge, The Alamo happened in what was Mexico (in which the boarders were changed by the U.S. government to steal land from Mexico), the Civil War had two different reasons for war even though the North had slaves and the American Indians had slaves 7 years after the end of the American Civil War), the India wars were built on lies, the U.S. entered WWI on a lie (The RMS Lusitania was carrying weapons so it was a legit target), part of the Vietnam war was based on a naval battle that may not have happened and even the U.S. involvement on Yugoslavia was based on the false premise that it would create a huge war in Europe if the U.S. wasn't involved. Lies and war go together.

England suffered through several civil wars that lasted hundreds of years before that country stabilized. The Indian Wars in the U.S. lasted about 100 years.

It is too bad that you did lose a leg - and you will get veterans benefits for that, but that does not make up for losing a limb.

I have to ask why you enlisted in the Armed Forces in the first place. There is no draft and no one forced you to join. This was your own free choice.

There are no good reasons the US is in Iraq. It is a civil war that we should not be in. There were no WMD's nor threat to the USA. Bush lied, Cheney lied, and others lied.

However, it is not their fault you were in the Armed Forces. That falls right on you.

I believe you absolutely. What you say is an understatement of the depth of the catastrophe wrought by Bushite ideas and botched actions there and here.
I opposed the needless re-invasion planned and executed by non-military strategic incapables long before they got around to finding an excuse for trying to get hold of Iraq's
oil and pretend to give them a government.

Read Kevin Phillips American Theocracy; he's seen the maps they made dividing up the spoils before they even decided to risk thousands of our lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraquis' lives; and they did all this in a pseudo-religious statist attempt to pretend that they were working for a democracy when no such constitutional result, given the tribal pseudo-religious level of the Iraquis, was ever going to be possible.
The war was not for nothing; it was for worse than that, since those who began this non-war knew from the outset there was no reason for it and lied abut their rationalizings.
No WMDs. No Al Queda connection. No swift ability by Hussein to obtain of build WMDs. Inspectors doing a great job. The potential for a disaster if we removed the psychotic strongman preventing a Shiite majority in a Sunni region from throwing off the minority Sunni yoke that was preventing internal warfare.
I am sorry for your loss. We have all lost in Iraq. Minds of my caliber and John K Jerry's, who should be leading the nation, instead have been marginalized, prevented from being heard, or slandered when we told the truth about the unAmerican and categorically incompetent plans being fomented by our so-called extremist right-wing elected-through-lies leadership.
We have lost a constitutional nation worth defending, all our rights that matter, and the ability in the world to make a moral-realistic and ethical difference. That is so because no one will again listen to those oil-crazed power-seeking has disrupted and harmed so many lives and undone so many hopes for betterment in the minds of good men in dozens of nations.

My brother served over there, and he feels similarly to you. I think it's not only unfair that you were deployed for a "war" built on false pretenses and exaggerated ideas, but egregious that you have to put up with the inability of others to validate your feelings now that you are back. I can only imagine how difficult it must be now that you are home and a disabled veteran. Despite how I feel about the war, I am proud that there are soldiers like you who are brave enough to fight on behalf of our country. Now, we just need to find some leaders who can lead in a similarly brave fashion. Thank you for your service.

Just how can we stabilize a region of people(The Sunni's and Shites) who have hated each other for over 14 centuries!

Sometimes,I think we try to solve too damn much at the expense of our own people.

What about Vietnam? Most of us didn't give a rats *** about it either. Us Navy guys did our job because we were there to provide naval gunfire support for the Army & Marines.

...........for what ever the reason we was sent, it was to honor the call of our country and to serve with pride. During time of duty we focus on our job and never sway. We are to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. For that with a quick snap, I salute those who I knew, know and fallen.

Understand your frustration, I don't agree. But from one combat vet to another I appreciate the extreme sacrifice you have given, and I only wish the best to you and your family.
