The why is Man so diametrically opposed to loving his neighbor? And...What can we do about that ?

Your question doesn't make sense. First of all, God doesn't exist. Even if he existed, his wanted to have a holiday on Earth to see what being a man is like, has nothing to do with loving your neighbor. Lastly, religion is all about NOT loving your neighbor unless you think there is a chance of converting the person. Religion spreads intolerance and, in many cases, violence.
