This is not unusual, and you're VERY lucky that he doesn't do the "smearing-on-the-walls" thing. My friend's little girl used to do the same thing as your son at around the same age. He duct-taped her diaper around the waist so she couldn't get it off!

The reasons why he does this, is because he can't stand wearing a dirty diaper. This may be an indication he wants to be potty trained. If it works, great, but maybe you are right and he is a little young. At least he isn't smearing it, which would be a whole lot worse and disgusting, and probably means he wants attention. You can try changing him sooner or check him at the same time each day before he does this. You may also want to duck tape the diaper, but then you run the risk of him tearing it, and making more of a mess than before. Everything is up to you, and what you feel you should do about it. There is no easy answer. Sorry. Good luck!

My son did something similar. The doctor said it was WAY too early to potty train at that age and that he was doing it for attention (which he got plenty of so I dont know) just clean it up and don't say anything. By telling him no you are giving him attention.
My son was potty trained at about 18 months and the doc said the avg for boys is 3 years so you are a bit early for potty training but you can always try

Consider yourself lucky that he doesn't play in it. Have you tried to see if he wants to go in the big boy potty? I thought my 14 month old was too young as well. But the babysitter had her trained in less that 2 weeks. Children are much more advanced now than we were at that age. It couldn't hurt to try. GOOD LUCK!!

I have learned that once they have pulled of thier diapers they ready to potty train.I'm not saying do it all day.But when he is napping keep an eye on him. When he goes to pull his diaper off take him the bathroom and let him pull off so he thinks he is a big boy and let him sit on a potty chair.Good luck.

A year old is a good age to start with the potty training.
To keep him from pulling the diaper off, put it on him backwards so he can't rip the velcro or tape off himself.

instead of putting diapers on him at nap time put easy ups, or pulls ups, not for the sake of potty training but it would be harder for a baby to take off a pull up than a diaper, or make sure he is in a onesie he cannot un button

Hes discovering himself and leaving you a present in the mean time! I think you may want to start potty training just to see what happens!

put snap shirt you know the ones that snap at the crotch on him and pants with a belt on. my son did this and this is what worked. your right too young to toilet train. and check on him during naptime to catch him taking it off and also a little strip of duct tape over the diaper tapes never hurt either

my son took his diaper off at around that age also. no idea why he did it. just put shorts on over his diaper. we used little boxers or pajama shorts that were still comfortable to sleep in. just be thankful that he leaves it alone. i went in one morning and my son, his crib, and everything were covered in poop.
