It isn't exercise that will help you lose weight, it's a combination of smart eating and exercising...swimming will actually help you better than running...because it's a full body exercise...
Spend the month watching what you eat...by that, I mean eating small meals several times a day, making sure you're not starving, making smart decisions and exercising no more than 4 times a week...your body needs rest periods...
also, drink at least 8 - 10 ounces of water a day ( you can supplement it with crystal lite for taste) and that will detoxify your system naturally and without cost to you. It also helps with elasticity in your skin and strengthens nails, hair and revitalizes energy. Make sure to drink approx. one litre about a half hour before running and then drink a litre right after...that will help with keeping energy high and keep you motivated...
However, you could swim everyday without a problem because it's fun and it's not hard on your body...if you have kids or can borrow kids, take them to the pool and throw them around for an hour...put them on your back and race around the pool with them...it feels completely weightless; however, when you try to get out of the pool, you have worked your muscles so much that you can barely get yourself out...
Working out every second day and eating healthy, but enough so you aren't hungry all the time will be the way to lose the weight...
I teach Health and I'm a PE instructor, so this is something I do for a living...I'm also on Weight Watchers and helped my sister-in-law lose 80 pounds in less than a year...the system works...

first you need to change your diet. run at lease 3 or 4 times a week. run then skip a day, do other exercise. run or jog at lease 40 minutes that when the fats are burning... also don't eat after you run wait for 2 hours. drink lots of water.

Don't eat second helpings, leave off the sweets, and cut back on your carbohydrates. That is, leave off your potatoes and cut way back on bread. Get plenty of exercise. Try not to snack unless it is fruits and vegetables. Leave off your unhealthy snack especially at night before bedtime.
