Q.) There is a Muslim sister who is pregnant for few weeks. Her husband is also a Muslim and wants her to go for abortion. He is threatning that if she would not drop the pregnancy; he will divorce her. Sister is very upset.
Could you please let us know what is the ruling in Shariah about abortion. [Hafiz Amjad Saeed Imam, Atlanta, USA]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A.) If the pregnancy is 120 days or more, then the sister cannot abort. It it is less than 120 days and she is certain that the husband will divorce her if she does not accede to the husband's order, then she will be excused if she aborts in order to save her marriage. The husband will be sinful for that. And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.

Islam as a religion of peace condemns any act of killing an innocent creature or even torture it.So in Islam abortion is regarded as killing and any one caought in such an act may be penalised as some one who has killed an innocent person.and so may be subjected to the same act.
Abortion of any kind as long as its intetional is killing in Islam.
For your Question about references or verses,i will reference only verses about murder if so you are satisfied with them

Abortion is Murder, No ifs or buts...
Killing any person is strongly condemned in the Quran. God has made life sacred. Killing the children is specifically condemned as they are the helpless victims in every society.
"You shall not kill any (Nafs) person - for GOD has made life
sacred - except in the course of justice……."(17:33)
"You shall not kill your children due to fear of poverty. We provide
for them, as well as for you. Killing them is a gross offense"(17:31)
"Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really
prohibited for you: You shall not set up idols besides
Him. You shall honor your parents. You shall not kill
your children from fear of poverty - we provide for you
and for them. You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or
hidden. You shall not kill any (Nafs) person - GOD has made
life sacred - except in the course of justice. These are His
commandments to you, that you may understand."
[6:151]
The word "Children" in the verse means the born an the unborn children. The order in 17:33 and 6:151 applies to both born and unborn children.

I'm not Muslim but I know they do not use birth control becasue they consider it wrong. I would think that abortion would be wrong as well.

I really doubt there is any view as in their traditional tribal laws they kill any woman who "commits fornication" out of marriage, because it brings shame on the family. This is even true if the woman is raped.
